we are planning a surprise breakfast in Cinderella's castle for our may trip... i know DD will be over the moon excited! however, i am afraid DS will be less than thrilled... i understand the boys get a sword and i am pretty sure he will love that, but for those of you who have taken boys is that enough to make them enjoy it?

it really isn't an option to split up because i know DH wants to see DD's face at the castle... and we really like to spend the time together...

i guess i am just looking for a little reassurance that he won't hate it :thumbsup2

thanks!

my son went when he just turned 5 with his sisters. He still enjoyed the princess interaction. LOVED the sword and wishing on a star.

even if your son doesn't love it, he will enjoy it enough. it's not a bad thing for him to see that sometimes we do something for someone else in the family. I'd play up eating in the castle and being treated like a prince/gentleman.

i've never seen a little boy in melt-down mode in the castle. doesn't mean it doesn't happen, but I bet it will be okay.

and was fine. He liked being in the castle, and getting the sword, but wanted no part of having a pic with Cindy or being greeted by the other princesses. I think it was pretty obvious so they left him alone.

They also get a plastic star to make a wish.. he liked that part too, and was he thought the food was good. (although we went for lunch..)

Both my boys were thrilled with the sword...of couse I made sure they would. They spent the entire week looking at swords and giving the begging puppy dog eyes and every time I said no way. Then they were THRILLED with the swords at the breakfast. It was something just for them! It was a magical time in the castle for all of us!

My ds was 6 the last time we had breakfast at the castle and my dnephew was almost 6, and they both had a blast. I think for them, it's just more characters to meet. They had the princesses sign their books, and took pic's ect. and yes they liked their swords. It was no problem at all, and I'd go back without thinking twice about it.

This was my son exactly. Did a few princess dining back when he was 5...loved it! But, our last trip in October (had turned 6 in June) he pretty much stayed away from princesses. He sat on the inside of the table and didn't interact. Yeah, he wasn't rude, but kind of minded his own business. We kept reminding him that his little sister had to endure meals/rides that were more pleasing to him, so he had to return the favor and go with the flow.

We were there on the 17th with my 3 and both of my boys enjoyed it, my 6 y/o more than my 8 y/o. The princesses kept calling them prince and sir and they even managed to get my older one to stand up with them and pretend to sword fight where he would have nothing to do with the princesses when we were in Norway. We even had a few of the same princesses who recognized us from a few days earlier. :lovestruc

We made sure to take some pictures of the boys with the armored knights in the lobby and didn't force them into pics with the princesses unless they got up on their own. They loved doing pics though with the knights and enjoyed playing into the wishing moments.

Thank you all for your awesome replies!!! I think he is going to like it more than he'll ever admit!
2 years ago Ariel kissed him and I think he has been anti-princesses ever since. But I bet his aversion to kissing will pass sooner than i care to think about!
Thanks again!

Loved the sword at 6 and still takes it out at 8y.o. Also keeps the wishing star nearby just in case.

We are taking DS 8 and DS 4 in June for the first time to the castle for breakfast. I didn't even know about the sword and figured the 2 boys would still enjoy it. We figured they would get a kick out of eating in the castle. We tend to stick with the same places and decided this trip would be different. We are also going to 1900 Park Fare for the first time. I'm with a PP that sometimes we do things for others in the family. In this case their mother.

DS4 LOVES his cheapo sword! It recently broke, and he's convinced we must eat at CRT again so he can get another one. It's a fun meal for everyone, I think!!

We are doing Princess Storybook dining at Akershus Royal banquet hall in Epcot....is this the same place you guys are all talking about? I have never been to Disney. My daughter will love the princesses but I was wondering what they do for the boys?????

No, CRT is in Cinderella Castle.

We did Storybook in Epcot as well as CRT and in Epcot they did nothing for the boys. I was actually semi disappointed in this meal because we felt it was the most rushed of all of ours (we did 7!) and had the least amount of interaction among all of the meals. From the time we sat down till they were giving us the bill (ie wishing us on our way) was a whole 30 minutes, the other character meals ranged from :45 to 1:30, and weren't "fly by" greetings as the family called them. Anyhow in Norway they paused for a picture with my dd, but since the boys were seated on the inside edge near a wall and not up the second they came by they moved on before they even had a chance to get up and go over for pics.
