We went to the Hoop Dee Doo review last time and wanted to try something different, but I was reading through old posting and the Aloha show hasn't received the best reviews. Is it worth the 2 credits or even going at all? Thanks!

That's a really tough question. While I havn't been to Hoop Dee doo, I thought the Spirit of Aloha Luau was okay IMO. The food they serve wasn't anything special, the best thing I liked was the free beer! As for the show well, the first half they have everyone come up to celebrate their birthdays, anniversaries, etc. The real show is the second half when they start to dance to the different types of polynesian culture ( Hawaii, Tahiti , Fiji ). Best part of course is the fire dancer!

So, all in all. I think this is something you might want to pass, because deep down I think you can put those 2TS credits to better use at one of thier many acclaimed signature restaurants.

You will get LOTS of different opinions on the luau . We've never done HDDR, but we did the luau for the first time in September and we loved it!!! We were there during free dining, but we opted to pay for tier 1 seating rather than use 2 TS credits and I'm glad we did.....we had great seats right up front by the stage :cool1: :cool1:. We thought the food was great and the show was cute :goodvibes. I read many not-so-good reviews before we went but we decided that it was something we always said we'd do when we stayed at the Poly, and we wouldn't really know what it was like until we tried it for ourselves......and I will say we have no regrets :rolleyes1. We won't do the luau every trip, but we will go back again sometime ;).

We tried it 3 years ago and enjoyed it very much. The show itself is kinda hokey (but in a comforting wholesome way).....

The food was good too.

On a personal note, I found that they were quick bringing reloads on beer (which endears them to me greatly) :thumbsup2

We won't be doing it again simply because we generally do Ohanas on nearly every trip to WDW.

I feel the same way about HDDR. We did it once and now go to Trail's End if we want the food.

Regards,

1) I will not comment on the quality of the show.
2) Too many different opinions and individual perspectives.

3) However, is it worth two credits financially - NO !
4) Better to pay OOP and use the credits elsewhere.
5) Just a bad deal - financially.

After reading reviews here on the DIS about it last year (what I remember from those reviews was 'did it once, that was enough') we decided to take a chance and try it.

My review is now the same as the ones I remember -- did it once, that was enough. We won't be going back.

The food was okay and the show (imho) ran way too long. We'll stick with O'hana for our Hawaiian food!

In my opinion no because you can only use it for level 2 or 3 seating. I paid oop last year so that we could have level 1 seating. Called 180 days in advance and got front row center. I don't think the other tiers are worth 2 TS.

I've been going to the show since it was called Polynesian Luau (probably 10-12 times) and I love it. It has been "disneyfied" since the shows are similar and it's more kid oriented in the beggining, but that's when you are eating so it's not a big deal. The best part is the second half of the show and to me it's one of the best shows in Disney. My DF also is a picky eater and she loves the food, especially the rice and dessert. And free drinks are always a plus. The picture they take at the beggining comes out nice too.

Here are some tips if you do want to go:

- Pay out of pocket and go for the teir one seating, it's worth it, but if you want to use the DDP then teir 2 isn't that bad, but it's why alot of people don't like the show since the viewing is a little limited

- Go to the 8:00 pm show if your children don't mind and you can wait to eat. The night effect really does wonders for the show. Plus the fireworks happen right after and you can watch it right from the beach which is amazing.

-Go there with the intentions of having a good time and not with the intentions of a dining experience. This is a great show and it's a nice break from the stress of the vacation.

Just be sure to have a good time, good luck!

Are you glad that you did it once? That is what we are leaning towards is trying it once but I don't want to be mad at ourselves that we did.
