Is the reservation info given to me accurate?

We are finally booking our rooms for next fall. There were a few things I was not aware of and wonder if anyone else has had this experience.

I requested a AAA rate, but was told I needed to book through AAA to get this. Is this true? I was under the impression this rate could be booked through Disney.

I was also told the cancellation/change policy was different now. There is a 45 day change/cancel policy and after that there are substantial fees. Is this new?

Just want to make sure I am getting all the information correctly and the DIS is the best place for that!

Thanks.

I don't believe either of those things are correct if you book room only through central reservations. Sounds like you got the travel co. The room only through cro cancellation is 5 days, and I believe you also can get the AAA discount if available. You definitely want to do it that way b/c there's a good chance that better discounts will come along closer to your dates -- you want to be able to cancel with no penalty.

That is what I thought, but I specifically told them I wanted room only. I guess I will just have to try again.

Thanks.

If you want the AAA discount, you will have to go through AAA and make them.

There are 2 different sides that you can contact when you call the Central Reservation offices. One side is the Walt Disney Travel Agency, which books packages... with that, the cancellation policy is 45 days prior to check in, and there are substantial fees you will have to pay if you have to cancel after 45 days.

If you talk to these people, they will not automatically tell you that they aren't CRO, where you can book rooms only, so ask. If they identify themselves as Walt Disney Travel Agency, ask them to transfer you to someone who works on the Central Reservation side for a room only booking. I haven't heard that anything has changed with the cancelation policy, and it is still 5 days prior to your arrival.

Let us know what happens!

I have always been able to get AAA rates through CRO with the 5 day cancel. I always do AAA until AP become available. I just did this a couple of months ago I would try again. You want CRO not Disney travel.

Did you contact a travel agency? You can book AAA directly through Disney. However, if an agency is booking the AAA discount for you through Disney, they need to be a AAA affiliated agency.

Hope that doesn't sound too confusing! :)
