Is the new incentive to add from SSR better than the old one?

Seems to be.

Under the old promotion, we would have gotten $5 off per point (since we're already in our '05 UY) and keep the '05 points.

If I'm understanding things correctly, we get $8 off per point, keep the '05 points, get a one-time grant of 100 bonus points, and pay no dues in '05 for the add-on points OR the bonus points.

I bought a 100 point add-on last week, 2/28. I called my guide this week to see if the new deal was better a better one for me. It was definitely better because I have a February use year. So I saved a lot with Dvc paying this years dues and I also saved $3 more dollars a point. Plus it was a great excuse to buy 20 more points than I had originally planned.

I forgot to add that my guide had no problem with switching me over to the new deal.

Does anyone know what use years are available to get 2004 points with the current promotion?

My guide told me August and later.

But I was able to get June.

Can someone explain exactly what the new promotion is? How much are points? Thanks!
Natalie

Under 100 is still $95

100 or more is:
$87 if skip 04
$90 is you want 04

120 or more give a 100 point bonus into 05.

I assume this is for SSR only?

Where does the part of DVC paying your 2005 MF fit in?

If you take the 120 point add on at SSR, and take only the '05 points so you pay $87 (and get the bonus), I have a question--

has anyone worked out what the financing is on this? (I no longer have my sheets from when we bought at BCV). Does the $8 per point count towards the down payment?

Thanks. My hubby is flying to california this afternoon so I only have a couple of hours to convince him!

Hi. I'm not a DVC owner (yet!), but I'm hoping to purchase this year. I looked into it a couple of years ago, and it didn't work out at the time, but I'm ready to buy now.

My question is...because I live in a non-registered area...does anyone know whether I have to physically be in Florida to buy an add-on, or whether it can be done over the phone? I know that to become a member, my choices are to buy direct from Disney when I'm there, or buy a resale. I have a trip planned for late April, and I'm going to tour SSR while I'm there. But, with the new add-on incentive, I'm wondering whether I'm better off buying a small resale, if I can find one, and then doing an add-on for the additional points. That only works though if I can do the add-on anytime I want, over the phone...otherwise, I'll likely buy directly from Disney while I'm down there.

Also, does anyone know how long the add-on incentive will be offered? From what I understand, it takes a couple of months for a resale to get finalized...so even if I bought a resale now, it wouldn't be finalized before my April trip (to buy the add-on while I'm there). And if the add-on incentive is only for a limited time, then I may be out of luck anyway...?

Sorry for all the questions...I can't call Disney directly for information, because I live in a non-registered province. Silly laws.

Oh, and I've already decided SSR is where I want to buy...I just have to figure out whether to buy from Disney, or buy a resale + add-on.

Thanks!

My understanding is that you will not be able to do an add-on over the phone, for the same reason that you cannot call Disney for further info: they simply cannot do business in your province.

If I were you, I'd just buy directly from DVC while down there. They'll probably be offering some variant of Magical Beginnings. If you want to do an add-on at that time, you should be able to do so. You can probably buy 150 points one day, and then go back the next day to get your add-on. Or, they might even be able to do it all on the same day. They're pretty flexible.

Have you tried contacting them recently? Just because they weren't registered in your area two years ago doesn't mean that situation hasn't recently changed.

If they aren't licensed to sell in your area, then Deep-Thots is correct. They can't provide any info to you or sell points to you.

If you are prepared to buy during your trip, explain the situation and see if they will make some accommodation for the fact that you can't take advantage of the add-on promotion. Maybe they'll slip you some lunch vouchers or other minor surprise. ;)

Hi. Thanks for the replies!

tjkraz...yup, I tried last month, but it seems my province still isn't registered.

I was thinking about looking for a small resale now, and then adding on while I'm there in April, but realistically, the resale probably wouldn't close in that time frame (6 weeks). I was hoping to have some extra points, just for this year, because I'd like to treat my parents, sisters, etc, to a trip at Christmas.

Oh well...guess I'll just have to buy directly from Disney...:cool1:. Depending on how the points/use year/etc works out, then I could probably borrow some from the next year, or maybe just use points for a couple of nights and pay cash for the other nights.

Thanks for your help!

A couple final thoughts:

1. Looking for a small resale probably isn't in your best interest. Small resale contracts seem to go for a higher per-point fee due to demand issues. Since DVC won't sell less than 150, many people who just want to get their foot in the door are willing to pay more than the going price just to get a contract...ANY contract. Also, with the closing costs being fixed in the $400-500 range, you could add $10 per point to a 50-pt contract in fees alone. (Spread over a 250 pt contract those closing costs would represent only $2 per point.)

You can always look--but run the numbers carefully before you make an offer.

2. Regarding your Use Year, try to decide in advance which year YOU want, and apply a little pressure to see if DVC will acquiesce. You will have some leverage in the discussion since you could always play the "well, maybe I'll just buy a resale" card. DVC loses you as a potential customer as soon as you leave Florida--make them earn the sale. ;)

Of course, you lose the ability to buy, too, so you'll have to decide how far to take the bluff assuming that your primary goal is to return home with a contract in-hand.

Good luck!

If you just want some extra points for this year, why not rent them? Once you have a membership, it's relatively easy to have points transferred into your account (from another member). Once the rented points are in your account, you can use them as you like (subject to booking windows and other reservation rules).

If you buy directly from Disney, you can begin making reservations as soon as Disney has your deposit.

Best wishes -

Hi..I think this has been asked before on another thread and I am just double checking.

If I am NOT a DVC owner (currently in ROFR), could I buy 150 points and still get the 'add-on' incentives of no dues for 2005 and 2004 points?

Thanks,
CB

Thank you so much for your advice and suggestions, I really appreciate it! Hopefully I'll come back from my spring trip as a "DVC owner" :Pinkbounc . I usually like to go in either the spring (April or May), or the fall (for the Food/Wine festival). If I understand use years correctly, then April would probably be a good use year for me? December might work well too, because usually I "plan" a spring vacation, and if that falls through for some reason, then I definitely go in the fall. I've never been to Disney at Christmas before, so if I get there this year, it will be a whole new experience...!

Thanks again!
