Is the meal plan worth it at DL?

We did the meal plan at WDW in 2005 with three adults and one child and we LOVED IT. I especially liked that we ate at more expensive restaurants that we might not have picked if we were paying cash at the time.

The DL meal plans look different, and I am wondering if they are "worth it" with two adults and two PICKY children. SEems like we might be better off just eating hot dogs for 4 days and keeping the kids happy.

Thoughts?

(I really should cut and paste this response since the question is asked so frequently)

If you do a search of these boards, you'll find that the general consensus is that the DL Dining Plan is definitely not worth it. At best you break even, and more likely you lose money. You are provided with vouchers for certain dollar amounts, and are not given change if the cost is less than the voucher. If you would like to prepay for meals, you're better off putting money on a Disney gift card, but the dining plan at DL is not a value like it is at WDW.

Thank you for taking the time to repeat the recommendation.

I did skim through and didn't see this topic, but duh, I should have searched.

No problem, I hope I didn't come off as annoyed, lol, I don't mind answering! It just really is asked a lot and I always seem to say the exact same thing :)

We had the dining plan (free) at WDW last month ~ it was wonderful! We never have and never will (unless it changes) use the dining plan at DLR. To prepay/budget for meals I purchase Disney Gift Cards and Character Meal Vouchers.

NO WHERE NEAR THE SAME as WDW!!!!! Sorry I wanted to stress that. I have done both, and LOVE the WDW version, but the DL one if you don't spend the entire voucher you lose money as no change is given, also if you go over you either pay or waste a whole voucher. each book of vouchers 1 for each of you has so many little coupon vouchers worth so many dollars those r what you pay with. You also cannot use them in downtown disney they don't accept them, also the candy palace on main street, and poohs corner candy store does not take them, so you pay out of pocket there also. It's honestly not worth it in my opinion.

The dining plan at DLR consists of dollar-amount vouchers, for the most part. So picky or not picky, doesn't really matter.
