Is the MagicBand coming to DLR?

They could port regular FP over to them (so much easier and less paper waste). At WDW, my credit card was linked to our bands (with a PIN so in case the band fell off no one else could use it) so I just swiped to charge (and this has increased revenue for Disney at WDW). They also use them for your ticket at WDW (along with the fingerprint scanners which are so much faster than having to wait for the group of 8 in front of you to all get their picture taken!). It could be linked to your PP account too. And ideally, with PP+, they'd set up RFID readers below the picture displays on rides and you could just scan your band to get the picture added to your account rather than having to stand in line to do it (wishful thinking, I know). At WDW, they also use them on rides like test track to match your car to you when you get on the ride. There could be future ride technology uses with them at DLR too.

Agree that all those things are possible. Still not seeing what the big advantage is there. IMHO the only reason they would implement MB's would be for the FP+ system as that gives them operational improvements.

The credit card thing right now at WDW only works if you are staying at a Disney resort. At DL/DCA the proportion of visitors that stay at Disney resorts is very small.

I would guess Disney will eventually allow everyone to link their bands to cards. It's to their advantage to do so. I do see the advantage of bands. One thing to carry. One thing that operates everything. Time savings on scanning it over waiting in line for things, etc. It really streamlines everything. And if they add in interactive queues or rides that utilize the technology even better.

It's a shame they couldn't have made magic bands more attractive. They are clunky and hideous.

You'll have to carry ID if you have an AP and want to use the discounts. And honestly, you're making a big mistake if you come to the parks with only a magic band as your method of payment. They are far too glitchy to be relied upon 100%.

Besides, if you are a day guest, what are you going to do..... leave your wallet in your car?

I agree with this. It's never a good idea to have one form of payment because you never know what might happen.

I don't really see any operational improvements at WDW since FP+ implementation. It doesn't seem that park staffing increased to accommodate increased attendance. According to several posts, the trash park trash cans were overflowing and the bathrooms were dirty over the last week in November and the first week in December. Also, majority of the rides that now have FP+ are C ticket.

Additionally, the Forbes article said MB's would be used on DCL, where FP+ is not an issue. So I still believe MB's could be used at DLR without FP+.

At WDW I carried my ID, but left my credit cards in the safe at the resort hotel. I could easily go get them if needed. Never was an issue, though.

My point was that DL has a much higher percentage of day guests, so no safe to leave the wallet in.

When I visited WDW last September I hated the Fastpass+ system.
The idea of Magic Bands (Hotel key, Payment) were great until I realized that I still needed to show my ID and Premier AP in order to get any AP discounts.

This was weird to me since my Magic Band was already tied to my AP which has my photo that comes up when I use it at a register.

This would be horrible if it came this way to the Disneyland Resort.

So if there had been an issue with your MB, you wouldn't have minded leaving the parks to go back to your room and get a credit card?
Personally, I would consider that a loss of valuable park time. I would never be happy if that happened, but then I would never rely on the MB alone.

Or I could just use my dh's for the rest of the day to buy something - I wasn't by myself. I did carry cash as well. But didn't worry at all about loosing my credit card like I do at DLR (cash amount was small). If there truly had been an issue with my MB, I would have gone to guest services at the park first to see if they could take care of it, a hotel trip may not have been necessary anyways. Fortunately, absolutely no issues, with any of our magic bands, and there were 5 of us!

On one of our past trips, we used our room card (which was tied to our CC) to pay for meals and whatnot on the parks. We didn't know there was a limit that they will allow on there. (Not sure if Magic Bands are the same way or not.) We went to pay at a counter service place and it was denied. (We just had to 'pay' it at the front desk when we went back to the hotel later.) Thankfully we had our actual credit card with us.

If there is we didn't hit it!

With the room card, they only let you spend a certain amount before they have to send it through to the CC company. I'm sure it was in the fine print but we didn't read it...ha! I think it's kind of dumb and it should just automatically get sent to my CC company.

Agreed. But if Disney bills one lump sum for the entire stay, they pay less in CC fees.

I guess I just don't get why people (and many of them do) find it so hard to just bring an ID and credit card. Honestly, I just don't get it. They are small, flat, weigh next to nothing, and fit in a pocket or lanyard.

No one it's saying it's harder. It's less convenient. Even if you still carry your card and id, you can tuck them away and do not have to dig them out for every purchase. The higher spending of those with MBs at WDW shows that this is obviously true. It's also more convenient to have a band that works as your ticket plus fastpass plus PP, rather than carrying around paper tickets and paper fps all day. For us, a group of 7, my dh would often have 7 tickets and 14 ride fp in his pocket plus 7 show (F! or woc) fp for our whole group! That's a lot of little pieces of paper! Plus we had assorted PP cards! That's a lot in your pocket!

I wear a super stylish (ha!) fanny pack so all of my stuff is super easy to access. If I had a magic band, it would take up more space in my pack than my cards (which I'd still be carrying.)

The higher spending of those with MBs at WDW shows that this is obviously true.

The jury is still out on that one. I have not yet seen a breakdown of whether the increase was due to MagicBands or increased prices.

In at least initial tests it boost spending for those with bands vs. those without: http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-...ts-sales-in-disney-world-test.html?cmpid=yhoo http://www.*********.com/magicbands-boost-sales-disney-world-149118/

It's like credit card vs. cash - it's easier to spend more and make more impulse purchases when you don't think about what you are spending or realize how it is accumulating.
