Is the MagicBand coming to DLR?

In at least initial tests it boost spending for those with bands vs. those without: http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-...ts-sales-in-disney-world-test.html?cmpid=yhoo http://www.*********.com/magicbands-boost-sales-disney-world-149118/

It's like credit card vs. cash - it's easier to spend more and make more impulse purchases when you don't think about what you are spending or realize how it is accumulating.

Yes, sales went up. And magicbands rolled out. But just because Disney wants to claim one caused the other doesn't make it so. After all, they have a massive investment riding on these results.

You could be right. Maybe that's the case. But people were already separated from using cash or a credit card by having charging privileges on their room key. I don't see putting that on your wrist now as all that revolutionary.

Very true that correlation does not mean causation (except if Disney wants it to be). Frozen merchandise could be a big effect, general price increases another. Magic Band charge or charging on the room card does not seem much different to me. Would it increase the purchases from off site visitors? I wonder what the Return on Investment is on the Magic Bands and the timeline for that return?

From an article published 2 days ago:

Meanwhile Disney’s investment in MagicBands, RFID-enabled wristbands that let visitors gain admission to the parks and buy merchandise, is starting to pay off: Guests who use them are spending more on average (Disney won’t say how much more).

I would bet they can compare those who have them linked to cards vs. not (since offsite guests cannot do so) and compare what the spending habits are.

I just saw a blurb on my local morning news here in So Cal..they were stating that Disneyland Officials were announcing a roll out of the Magic Bands for the 2016 year.

No Just Magic Bands. But it sounds like it will not be far off.
Question: did they local news provide a named source for their info or was it the infamous," Disney insider"? I just think the media has gotten so sloppy that they'll say anything without verifying the information.

Sorry I cannot remember, I just thought it was interesting they would make that a mention. This channels news does not normally put out rumors and rarely mentions the parks outside of major announcements or events. (they interviewed for the first 24 hour event at the park with Disney Execs and the crowds).

... and we need two threads, the other just regurgitating many ideas and opinions in this one, for what reason, exactly?

No one it's saying it's harder. It's less convenient. Even if you still carry your card and id, you can tuck them away and do not have to dig them out for every purchase. The higher spending of those with MBs at WDW shows that this is obviously true. It's also more convenient to have a band that works as your ticket plus fastpass plus PP, rather than carrying around paper tickets and paper fps all day. For us, a group of 7, my dh would often have 7 tickets and 14 ride fp in his pocket plus 7 show (F! or woc) fp for our whole group! That's a lot of little pieces of paper! Plus we had assorted PP cards! That's a lot in your pocket!

I really liked having a band around my wrist to act as my room key/tickets etc instead of a room key I can easily lose in the bottom of my band plus pieces of paper for fastpasses. A scan-your-magic band to pull FPs and then it's on the band which you can scan at the ride entrance is a pretty good idea.

It's actually not as uncomfortable as you would think! And if you don't like wearing it you can put it around your bag strap or something.
