Is the MagicBand coming to DLR?

Anyone know if the MagicBand and all the MyMagic+ stuff will be coming to DLR? Is it already here? :confused3

DL can't get their hotel keys to match up with the tickets system. I doubt they could figure out Magic Bands. And let's hope it stays that way.

The Disneyland Resort is so small, I don't see the need for Magic Bands there. We did enjoy them at WDW last year though. I liked being able to reserve a FP time & be able to change it if needed. But I hope DL stays as is, less confusion (and less $$$). :thumbsup2

Fastpass+ at Disneyland could happen even without the MagicBand.

Oh please don't scare me like that. :scared1:

I cannot stand FP+. I'm riding less, leaving earlier, and having less of a good time at WDW thanks to it.

Figuring out where I want to eat half a year before the meal is one thing. Figuring out our day's touring plans to that degree 60 days out? Forget it. And let's not talk about changing. The one day I tried, on a low volume day at Epcot. No other times for my attraction. No other attractions for my time. I had just chosen those things that morning (we took a bump from our flight so it was a bonus day) but NOTHING was available to change things to. So I bought a big beer and wandered Epcot, chatting with CMs.

:headache:

The only real annoyance with that is if you have an AP and are staying on property, you have to show your AP, your room keycard, and your ID every single time you purchase food or merchandise to get your discount.

I'm curious why you would need to show your room keycard to get a discount on food or merchandise?

Oops, sorry! I skipped a step there! I meant to say, if you're charging back to your room. We do that because it makes things easier (paying down one folow rather than keeping track of a bunch of individual receipts.) It would still be three cards even if you weren't charging back. You'd just in that case be showing your AP, ID, and debit/credit card (if not paying in cash.)

So with the MagicBand you don't need to show any of these? That's pretty cool actually...

If you have anything that gives you a discount, you have to show the proof and your ID. So that's a DVC card and ID. Or AP and ID. Or, in the most intruiging move ever, card that proves you have an AP on your MB , and ID.

If you want to use your Chase debit/credit discount, you cannot charge to the MB, you have to use the Chase card.

MBs sometimes mess up. So you should really bring a CC or some cash, just in case.

And MBs sometimes mess up. So you should really bring your actual ticket (or AP) just in case.

And I've mentioned the ID, right? Because if there's ANY problem, you need to prove that it's your MB and account.

So now you're carrying your ID, your proof of discount, some backup money... And I bring my insurance card just in case a park day ends in an ambulance to the ER. The universe thinks it's amusing enough to send "graduated at the bottom of their class" MDs our way anyway...the last thing we need is to not have proof that we have insurance, no matter what the laws say.

And we have a weird rubber (not really rubber) bracelet that's extra.

So convenient!

I am the queen of saying perfectly fine things in a way that puts people off incredibly (and sometimes saying things way harsher than I should), so I truly do believe that written communication is ridiculously hard. I've also found that sometimes if you put one paragraph before the other it can completely change everything. If the previous poster had put the answer FIRST and then talked about how often it's asked, it would have come across very differently. It's all the same info. Just said, perhaps, the wrong way around. (I once got a moderator warning b/c I'd put the paragraphs the wrong way and it read EXACTLY the opposite from my meaning...came across so poorly when I didn't mean it that way at all)

Just came back from a weekend trip, and the concierge lounge tour guide mentioned that they are interested in getting the magic bands at DL, but both the state and the IRS of all people are fighting them. She said the IRS was concerned about possible tax evasion, since accounting would be more invisible. The state of CA was also worried about taxes as well as privacy. I'm not sure if this is really accurate, but I'm sure a few well placed lobbyists would eventually take care of these hurdles if this is really the problem. That would mean it's just a matter of time.

Regarding multiple posts of age old questions, I assume there are redundant posts because lots of people want to know. It would be more helpful if people actually post the links to useful threads rather than scold posters unfamiliar with the boards. Doing so might bump said helpful threads and prevent future outrage. Just throwing that out there.

I have not tried the Magic Band, but am currently planning a WDW trip.
While magic bands are perhaps the most visible, they are just one element of My Disney Experience.

My Disney Experience creates a personal guest account linking: tickets, lodging, dining, fastpass. Each guest has an account, which can be linked with other guests traveling together. Most features of My Disney Experience are accessible from mobile apps.

Some DLR dining reservations (made on the phone) already appear on the WDW My Disney Experience website. It seems very likely that many elements of My Disney Experience will be coming soon to DLR (link: tickets, lodging, dining), although Magic Bands and fastpass might be much later (or not at all).

That doesn't surprise me, but don't count on lobbyists. Florida is very permissive in terms of its regulation and oversight--or really, lack thereof--of WDW, especially since WDW is effectively its own municipal entity.

By contrast, DLR only gets that kind of leeway historically from Anaheim. But at the state level, California is very strict regarding safety, tax, and privacy issues. As last year's D/OSHA fiasco proved, Disney parks get very little leeway from the state. I'm sure everything related to MDE, MBs, and FP+ is being scrutinized to an extraordinary level of detail.

I think it's also fair to assume--if Team Disney Anaheim's lack of preparation for D/OSHA's 2013 fines and the enormous expenses that stemmed from them are any indication--that TDA didn't see the scrutiny coming over the new technology, either. Lobbying was no help in 2013. I doubt it would help in this instance, either.

We just got back from WDW and my cousin met with an old friend who works in marketing for Disney. She said they are currently working on how to bring the magic bands to DL.

I heard a similar thing from a relative that works for Disney. They are planning to import them to DL; it's just a matter of how soon.

Just Magic Bands, or Magic Bands and FP+?

yes (need to sign up for access to the Orlando Sentinel article)

The article isn't telling much that hasn't been reported or suspected, but the money quote is:
As MyMagic+ becomes an increasingly familiar part of a Walt Disney World visit, its technology should start appearing in Disneyland and other parks during the next couple of years.

Well, wouldn't it be interesting to see how they try to shoehorn FP+ return lines at all those attractions in Fantasyland?
