Is the Kennedy Space Center fun?!

We're staying at Disney for 7 nights, and spending 5 days at the parks - and our other day at Kennedy Space Center.

My BF (who I'm traveling with) is obsessed with anything to do with space and astronauts and rockets and flying... And I'm, well, not! My knowledge and interest of rockets goes to the extent of watching Apollo 13 because I like Tom Hanks. Eeeek!

I'm happy to go with my BF, because it's his day, you know!? It's the one thing during our whole 6 week trip to the USA that he is just SO excited about, which is really cute. But I can imagine I might get a bit bored, and I don't want to spend the whole day wishing I was back at Disney!!

So for someone with very little interest in all things space... is it fun!? Or at least, interesting? Either way, I'll be going, but I just hope it's fun!

Hi there!!

We went to KSC on our first trip to WDW in 2001. I'm not big on that kind of stuff either but I still found it interesting. We liked it enough to talk about going back sometime soon. I think I read somewhere they were refurbishing some of the buildings and adding some new attractions. Have you looked up their website to see if there's anything there you'd be interesting in??

Anyway, hope this helps. Let us know if you check it out. Have a great trip!! :goodvibes

I think you find it more enjoyable then you realize. There is a lot to do two bus tours, two imax movies, the fairly new apollo museum plus plenty more. We really enjoy it and we are definitely space novelist.

We went a couple years ago. DH loved it so did ds, but me and the girls weren't really thrilled about being there. It was OK and some things were interesting and some not. You may enjoy some of it.

Hmm! Thanks everybody, for your thoughts!

I'm sure our day at KSC will be fun!

There seems like there's lots of stuff to do there, anyway.

And you never know, I might be inspired to become an astronaut!

Heheee. Or not.

I begrudging added it to a trip intinerary - was lobbying for a beach day myself.

DF had to drag me out of there. I had the best time! So cool to see the actual areas instead of on tv. We took a backstage tour & it was worth the extra cost - surprised to see different wildlife. Never did make it to the astronaut museum.

Wonderful break from the park madness.

I'm pretty much the same as your BF and I went 8 years ago and LOVED IT. I'm going back in just a few weeks. I think's definately interesting, if nothing else. Just read all the info cards on the exhibits and try to get into it! :woohoo:

My space-nut DH loved Kennedy! He could have spent at least another whole day there.

I found it interesting...I did enjoy it, even though I'm not a sci-fi girl.

DD(7) thought it was just OK...liked seeing the animals on the side of the road, loved running around the rocket garden, posing for pictures, climbing the steps of the gantry, seeing the mock shuttle, etc. but the exhibit rooms did nothing for her. So DD and I did the quick tour of some exhibits, then went outside for her to run around while DH hung around and took his time.

It was really important for him to go, so we did it! If it had been just DH and I, we would have spent longer. As it was, we compromised. We stayed longer than DD probably would have wanted, but not as long as DH could have! ;)

Yay, I'm getting a bit more excited about the KSC idea now! :cool1:

It might be nice to have a day break from the Disney chaos... And I'm a sucker for IMAX movies, so I think I'll be fine!

And we're coming back to Disney that night for a late Boma dinner anyway, so that will be nice. :)

I hope they were still alive!!! Eeek!

If so... why are there so many animals around? Why would they want to live at KSC? What sort of animals are they? Hmm!

If you're really lucky, giant condors (we just saw their nest, big as a queen size bed); cranes & other wet land birds, alligators, turkey vultures:eek: ; they were all "still kicking".LOL

Enjoy

I hope you enjoy the KSC. The last time I was there was in 1998 and it seemed so much smaller than when I was there as a child. I know it didn't shrink. What happened? All childhood landmarks seem to do that. The things I did enjoy were looking for gators in the stagnant water around the area and the Challenger Memorial. I guess that they have added to it for the last group that died. I suppose enjoy isn't really the right word, but it is worth reading and feeling that emotional pull. I also enjoyed the drive there and the Imax. Another interesting thing that I had as a child and thought was so cool was Dippin Dots. It was cutting edge food technology then, but is even in the mall now! Also, if you are majorly into food (like me : :cheer2:) the dehydrated "astronaut" food in the gift shop is fun to try.

Oooh! What's Dippin Dots?!

And the astronaut food sounds fun too. Does it come in sealed bags? It might be a fun present to take home for people in Australia!

Dippin Dots are a really strange form of ice cream. They are tiny little balls of YUM!!!

The dehydrated foods are a great gift to take back, especially for kids and guys. The neapolitan dried ice cream actually tastes pretty good too. It just melts in your mouth. Enjoy!!!

KSC is also the home of a massive wildlife preservation area...so the animals we saw were all alive and well! ;) I should have clarified that, I guess!

HATED it! My kids almost went out of their minds with boredom. Never, ever again.

I went there while in FL on a 10 day vacation in 1995. It was a nice break from the parks.. but kids under the age of 14 who don't have an interest in space etc.. will be bored to TEARS -- LITERALLY.

I commented when we were there that it would be best visited when a launch is expected.

My nephew (16) and niece (13) went last April and they did not enjoy it at all. My sister's comment afterwards was that back when the US space program was really 'cooking' it probably was quite an attraction. Now-a-days.. with the space shuttle on massive delays between launches.. it's kind of ho-hum.

We went two years ago before a cruise and took a family with us that had said they had went before and didn't really care for it. We did all the tours and the space museum and when the day was over and quite full they said,
"what a day, it wasn't like this the last time we came." It was they just didn't do it. So my advice is do it all, don't leave anything undone thinking it will be to small and you will have a great day.
There is a flight slimulator that makes Mission Space's G-Force small. It's in the museum ,I think. :tink: :tink: :tink:

Must agree with the people saying Nay! Although I am sure it has changed in the last 16 years, we went when I was 13 during the big Disney trip and I hated it! Unless you are going to be there for an actual shuttle lunch, or you have older kids that want to be astronauts don't waist you time! I clearly remember that it was the most boring thing ever!

I was just there for the first time in April. I met my mom there (shes lives in Arizona) as my daughter has never wanted to go, and my April trip to WDW was with mom (DD was a freshman in college and could not go). I thought it was really interesting and would go back.
