We were at Epcot on Sunday and there was a story teller at Japan instead. The "candy cart" was removed.

*gasp!* NOOOOO!!!! We LOVE the candy lady! We are going in two weeks and she was one of the many things we were looking forward to see. Please someone say it isn't so! :worried:

I know us too!! We're going this weekend, we'll have to check out the times guide. What is it called? I know it's something that starts with an "M", but so does the drum entertainment.

We were there Easter Sunday '05 and Miyuki's (the candy lady) cart was there and she was listed in the Epcot Weekly Times Guide. We waited patiently with many others for her 1st show, and she never showed up. Someone in the gift store finally came out and said that she was "sick" and wouldn't be there at all for the entire day.

Thought that it was highly unprofessional that she didn't notify anyone about her plans to not work that day, so they could update the sign which listed her showtimes (especially since she doesn't work on Fridays and Saturdays either), but figured that's how it works. It was our last park day, so we never did see her.

...We were in Epcot this afternoon and saw the tail end of her show. Her name is Miyuki, and she performs from a cart near the front of the Japan pavillion.

If I remember correctly, I think she is off on Sundays & Mondays.

I've got the Times Guide from our trip in from of me, and her listed days on (can only speak for our week) are Sun-Thur and off Fri-Sat. We were there on Sunday.

Her not showing up that day and also not notifying anyone so they could post it and not have us all waiting around was the only teeny "unmagic" we experienced during an incredible trip. On the flip side, we were pleasantly surprised that when we went over to the American pavilion later, they were having an Easter egg hunt for the kids and there were still openings. DD7 and DS7 were thrilled and quickly forgot about missing the candylady (glad I didn't play her up). And the way I look at it, if she had shown up, we would have gotten to the American pavilion later and maybe not gotten in to the egg hunt.:wizard:

I haven't been to Epcot since 2000, and I don't know anything about the "Candy Lady". What does she do that's so special?

:grouphug:

She makes candy art. She starts with like a ball of candy(not sure what type) and then makes the most elaborate candy out of it and she makes sound effects with it too (i.e. whooosh for a tail, the animal waves when she makes a foot). She is so much fun to watch, she works very fast, and she engages the crowd. Get there about 5 minutes early if you want to have something made there is a list to pick from (plus you can choose what color you want). She made me a dog in Jan...here is a pic:

OK, OK, OK, now how do you know that she did not call in and say she was sick??? It's not nice to jump to conclusions!!! Do you know she isn't gravely ill?? How would you feel if she was close to death and you were calling her "unprofessional"??? Please people, :flower: It isn't all about you!!! Ok, now I will jump off of my soap box! Have a great day!!

What?!? Is this a serious post?!?
Since Myuki was well enough to answer the telephone when the nice people in the Japan gift store called her (several of us were standing there when they called her and the gift store person said she was on the phone -- just in case you were wondering), I term it unprofessional. This was in the afternoon (her 1st show begins at 12:55 and the audience had been there going on close to 2). She's off Fri and Sat as well.

:sad2: Sure it's a serious post. How can you call being sick being 'unprofessional'? Easily one of the most absurd things I've ever heard. :rotfl2:

I wasn't the one to call it unprofessional, but I'll agree with the statement. When you are sick, you call your employer, and your employer lets people know. If they had to call her, she apparently didn't call them (an assumption, yes.) Someone dropped the ball, it sounds like it might have been her. People are on their vacations, they could be doing something else. Instead, it sounds like they were waiting for someone who wasn't going to show up.

She's great, I've seen her, it was fun, etc. Doesn't mean she's perfect and didn't screw up in this case.

Thanks, rwodonnell.

And sorry OP, didn't mean to hijack your thread.

As I mentioned, it really wasn't a big deal -- we loved the Easter egg hunt that the American pavilion put on and we lucked out with our timing (thanks in part to the no-show in Japan). So one door closes and another opens.

I've never "experienced" the candy lady but how do you know she is employed by Disney. If she is the only one always there then she may just rent the space out. Even if not, give the poor lady a break, do you expect her to be there 24/7 365 days a year, dear god even rides break down. She is allowed to be sick. In any case, if some one thinks she is that unprofessional then on your return vists don't give her your bussiness.

will it last if you save it?
It's free. It can be interesting to sit back and watch people jockey for position. My oldest son was probably the only one in our group that didn't seem to care if he got one, but was watching very intently. She asked him what he wanted, and he seemed surprised. Meanwhile, my other two were chomping at the bit for one. I found the whole thing quite amusing.

Ours is going on a month and shows no signs of change. I've heard they can last quite a while. My daughter wanted to eat the thing (it's an eagle) but after watching her create it, I don't think I would. I mean I am sure her hands were clean, but she certainly did a lot of touching and molding and so on. Better left as a work of art! :)

If you get a chance to ask for one, I would say that feathered things were more interesting to me, the way she created the feathered look was neat to watch. The thing I thought was most creative was a pink flamingo, which was the first thing she made in our session.
