Match.com-no,

I knew he/she was THE ONE when I took him/her to WDW and they wanted to buy me points!
If only you could register points like at Fortunoff's or Macy's! Yes, I would like to register 500 points divided btwn -VWL, BCV and OKW. Might as well throw in a few HH and SSR, while we are at it!

Divorce....or job loss.

I think a LOT of people buy while on vacation without thinking the whole thing through. "This is the best vacation we've ever had! We should do this every year!" And then they stroll by a DVC book, plunk down $15,000 and are happy.

Then they get home. And they realize that they can't do it every year. They can't afford it. They need to visit their parents in Arizona. The kids have committments to school activities. Disney was great, but didn't we all want to go skiing next year? The "you can go all these places" turns out to be not a great deal when they start looking closely at the points. And they decide that DVC isn't for them.

I've met a few people who bought DVC during their first WDW trip. And for a few its worked out. And for others, Disney hasn't kept the charm after two or three additional trips.

That is my fear with my wife. I love Disney and don't get tired of vacationing there (I was a 3 time College Programmer) as long as it is at least 6 months between visits. But I am still trying to indoctrinate her into the Mouse Club. We have been twice in the last 3 years and she loved it both times... 2007 will be the test as we are going in Jan and Dec.

Hmmmm....having someone buy you points....I never thought of that....would I have to get married to register? And to think...my brothers and sisters still buy me clothes for Christmas when they could be buying me vacation club points...

Suggest it to MS! DVC could use some help with marketing.
Of course you'd probably end up with 5 points, and have to return it!
(That's what happened to us when DW registered for silver -- we got one fork!)

Remember SSR is larger than most other dvc resorts, so there would proportionally be a larger number of resales, based on many reasons already mentioned. But also, there would be some who would buy with an incentive then hope to sell for the same price, getting a few trips for the price of their dues. I don't believe this is bad for SSR or because of SSR in anyway - i just think it is a reflection of the timeshare market as a whole.

Thirteen different SSR contracts for sale on The Timeshare Store website alone (two pending). I haven't been paying attention to resales lately but that number seems high for a brand new DVC resort.

Oh well, at least the sellers aren't taking a huge bath like most of the people who end up dumping their timeshares.

I think quite a few are circumstances related to life in general.

We just bought 160 pts in September and found out we are expecting twins in July!

We are going to do all possible to keep our pts but have to sell a few to make up for the time we can't go.

We did think about selling but will do our best to hold on.

Again, there are so many changes in peoples lives that unfortunately DVC , since it is a luxury is usually the first to go.

One point at a time-if 50 people bought me 1 point I would have 50 more points! I could deal w/ that.
The DVC registry-sounds good. Get Jim Lewis on the line!

Now, one fork-I didn't know you could buy 1 at a time! I need extra spoons-they are like sox-I put them in the dishwasher and they disappear!

I've been around for a while now and I think its just seasonal. There seem to be more resales available in the middle of winter than other times of the year. SSR will have more people who have loans out on their shares than other resorts so changes in circumstances would make it more likely they'd get put out to pasture.

I won't even consider a new mate if she is not a DisneyNut because if she's not, I'll be vacationing form the next 36 years on my own!

My thoughts exactly; I'm almost divorced, and just bought my DVC after the split. Next time around I'm settling for nothing less than a Disneyaholic like myself, or at the very least a "willing-to-be-converted"!!
