Sorry I can not seem to find the most recent thread regarding the Hat. Last I saw the base with the ears was still there. Does anyone have pictures of the view now of the theater or know if it is all gone? Thanks!

I know some people can't stand the hat, but man, those pictures make me sad.:sad1:

We've never known HS without the hat, and one of our all time favorite family photos was in front of it. (see avatar to left)

This September when we go, it will be gone completely. Glad we have the memories and photos...

I can understand that. My first introduction to Hollywood was just before the hat so I remember and liked the view without it. I do understand and I am sorry for the people who liked it. I can tell you from what I recall it was a really nice view down from the entrance seeing the theater. It is more in keeping with the general theme of Hollywood Studios.

Glad I had some last pictures taken in November in front of the hat.

On a side note... I just can not believe how serious the construction was of that hat. I have read what people have said on the boards.... that it was never built with a mind to keep it there. As they take it apart you can see that it had a really strong infrastructure. Hard to believe they only intended the hat to be a temporary addition.

Even if it was "temporary" is still has to stand up to strong winds. Possibly even hurricanes.

I was just coming to post this! The hat removal makes me sad. I agree it seems to be taking a long time to come down.

I've never BEEN to DHS before the hat, but I've seen pictures of the way it was when it was how it was originally designed to be,and I've got to say I prefer it without the hat even though I've never seen it that way in person. I'm glad that the next time I go there I'll have a view of the Chinese Theater even though it's not what I'm used to.

One thing we've learned after our four back to back WDW trips, is that we need to do as many new things as possible each time to keep the magic. So having the hat gone will definitely be new, and I'm looking forward to that experience. We're still sad to see it go though, with all the great memories kind of attached, but excited at the same time to see how different it will feel and look...

I wonder if the deconstruction is being done very carefully because they plan to reassemble somewhere else....

I'm so happy it's almost down!! It's probably coming down very methodically because yes - it had to stand up to hurricane winds - can't have it blown down and crashing into stuff during a storm. But it was never meant to be there and it was a complete eyesore. It totally ruined the theme of a Hollywood street. Imagine a HUGE Statue of Mickey or a huge hat in front of Cinderella's castle, blocking your view. The theater was DHS version of a Cinderella's Castle. YAY that it's coming down, hope they move quickly!

That's the way I feel too. Looking forward to the new looks at DHS and DAK. Even though I have visited Wdw a lot of times, I have never seen DHS without the hat.

I have heard people say that it is not being put back up. They said it was evident by the way it was being taken down. They were not doing it by cutting the metal in clean cuts or by unbolting. It was being cut with jagged edges. So it seems impossible to be put back up. If they really wanted to put it somewhere else it would probably be less expensive to just build it anew.

Unfortunately for those who would like to see it go somewhere else they are pretty much cutting it in to manageable pieces to got to a land fill or buried somewhere on property

The first section removed from the top looked to be removed more ceremoniously than the other chunks cut away from the structure. Perhaps the top will not live in Yesterland forever. Most of the hat looks to be destined for the scrapyard.

G’day
