Is The Hat at Hollywood Completely Gone now? Any pictures?

Cinderella's Castle tells guests: "Become part of the Magic of Disney"
The EPCOT geodesic dome says: "Embrace the optimism of the future"
The Tree of Life tells guests: "Appreciate the beauty of nature"
The Chinese Theater tells guests: "Immerse yourselves in the Magic of Hollywood"
The Gigantic Hat told guests: "Spend more of your money on the Disney souvenirs that are sold under the hat"

I'm not writing that framework off yet. There's something vaguely Tatooine-ish about that structure...

Sorceror Mickey is my fave. Mickey, ever. The hat will hold a special place in my heart. :) I am sad to see it go,but, I am happy for change.

None of us really hate the hat! We do/did hate the location. It was just a very bad decision coming from Disney's Brain Tank.

I was on my Disney experience, and I noticed that the hat wasn't on the map anymore. Does this mean that it is completely gone?

That depends on what you mean by completely gone. If you mean that nothing is left, then no it's not. If you mean that enough has been torn out that it is definately on the path to completely gone, then yes.

I'm not sure why everyone thinks that it is a small job to take that thing down. It is huge! Looking at it now, almost completely gone with only the metal brim left to take out, it is so obvious just how out of proportion that monstrosity really was. I'd say they have, at least, another week of cutting down the steel before it will be completely invisible, but you can count on another two months at least before the landscaping is done and the walls come down.

This is what it looked like this morning. Taken by someone and posted on another board.

It would be really exciting if the structure was gone in time for our trip in April. Even if the building wall is in place the view to the theatre will be much better with the steel framing down. I'm excited - I still remember visiting DHS when they called it MGM and that hat was not there. I love the sorcerer's hat in plush on a kid but not in steel :)

I know some people can't stand the hat, but man, those pictures make me sad.:sad1:

We've never known HS without the hat, and one of our all time favorite family photos was in front of it. (see avatar to left)

This September when we go, it will be gone completely. Glad we have the memories and photos...

Dan

You said this so much better than I could. I feel the exact same way. I wish I could have a piece of it too :(
Goodbye hat, I shall miss you always :(

I'm glad to see it go. I remember HS before the hat and I think it just looked cluttered and out of place. I can't wait to get to see HS without it!

Wow that is taking a long time.

Since it's in the middle of the park they are only doing work on it at night and not on weekends so it's taking it's time most likely it will be gone by then end of the month or maybe a couple weeks into March

The hat did kinda cramp things but I liked it and it was the logo for the park
Ie castle, golf ball, tree
Now what for HS

Ummm....The Chinese Theater? The Watertower? Like it was originally when the park was first built?

This is like Disney putting a giant Figment in front of Spaceship Earth or placing a huge Mickey in front of the Castle. It didn't belong there in the first place.

When giving directions I found myself saying...it is behind that hat..you can not see the the gargantuan arch because there is a an even more gargantuan hat in front of it! The hat definitely as a stand alone piece was cool but it just did not belong there. I am very glad that we will soon be seeing an unobstructed view of the theater.

I know what you mean. Our first Disney park ever was Hollywood studios and the hat was the first thing I remember seeing. Our first vacation photo was in front of the hat also.
On a side note, I see you stay at POR. We are there next week, any tips or tricks to know about? Have never stayed here before. Usually CBR.

A good place for the hat would be outside the gates at DHS put the bag check under it. I haven't seen people think about that location but I think it would be a great place for it. Also I understand what people who have never seen DHS without the hat are saying but there are other people with great family pictures without the hat.
