Is the Great Movie Ride scary?

My DD (5 at the time) was a little frightened on this ride. It was the only thing on the whole trip that bothered her. She didn't like the Indiana Jones part b/c she truly believed that our guide had gotten burned alive. Also, there is a scene with the alien hanging from the ceiling that can be a little scary.

As far as other scary rides...it just depends on the child. Are they afraid of heights, the dark, going fast, etc...

The ride motion is not at all scary. You are travelling on a level path.

The ride content has scary parts. The tour guide in the front of your vehicle is replaced by a "bad guy." (Two different versions of this.) The vehicle goes through Alien and Indiana Jones scenes mentioned above.

There are also delightful parts a child would love such as a Wizard of Oz scene.

I would take a child but I would have my child close his/her eyes for the spaceship.

The scariest part of the ride, as mentioned, was the alien coming out of the ceiling. You can definitely tell when the part is coming up, though, and cover your child's eyes so they don't get scared (this is what I do with my daughter who doesn't like that part, but loves the ride). As far as the Indiana Jones part, I suppose it can be scary to some kids, but my kids found it to be more funny than anything. The ride is definietly worth it, though.

As far as anything else scary in the parks, it really depends on your kids. "It's tough to be a bug" in Animal Kingdom can also be a little scary to kids that don't like or get grossed out by bugs - although there are parts of the show that are really very funny. "The haunted mansion" isn't bad, but my daughter hates the part when the heads pop up from behind the tombstones :scared: (so she closes her eyes and buries her head in Daddy's shoulder!!!!)

Beware of rides that are very loud or (obviously) have sudden drops like "Tower of Terror".:scared1:

This is what I did for my DD, then 5. I had been on it before and remembered that was scary. She was fine and just waited for me to tell her that it was over. The Indian Jones scene didn't bother her at all.

When we went last year the one part that scared my kids was the alien scene. Now I just remind them about the alien scene and how it's not real and suppose to be funny. :goodvibes So now they just laugh at the alien. ;)

the alien is what was most scary for my 2 and 4 year old. But they just closed their eyes and then thought it was funny when the alien drooled on them. However, we were sitting in the front seat by the driver and when ours got hijacked and the "bad guy" was driving, my 2 year old kept alling him a meanie and that he shouldn't be mean to people. The "bad guy" had a hard time trying not to smile.

DD6 did not like the Great Movie ride last year (she was almost 7). She was scared by the content, but DD2 at the time wasn't bothered.

We will skip it this year.

DD was a little startled by the gunfire in either the western/mob scene (depending which version of the ride you are on...we've been on both). The Alien also made her jump but neither scared her enough that she doesn't want to go back on. That being said DD doesn't scare easily and wants to know why she can't ride EE!!!

I was so freaked out by this ride as a kid I even told my parents I wasn't riding it and sat outside. I do remember them just telling me to put my face in their lap. But yes it was scary even if I knew it was fake.

my daughter was scared about the alien, but was much more concerned about the cast members. she wanted to go and find the lady after she left the vehicle. she started crying when the bad guy went to try and get the gold during indiana jones, but when we got off the ride, she was assured that everyone was okay.

We skipped it with our dd2.. But she was afraid of EVERYTHING!!! Nemo the ride, the show.. Fantasmic, anything 3/d.. The car show at MGM.. Not Indiana Jones ( because she slept through it :rotfl2: )..

Thanks for that. last trip we didn't do the great movie ride however we did
DD11 was terrified for Honey i shrunk the audience at DS, however DS 4 was not. he was too short for the leg effect.

We were able to play off the Indiana Jones and the mob scene as just "acting" but my DD5 hated the witch from Wizard of Oz :)

Just how scary is this for younger kids? What's scary?

Any other scary rides?

Thanks!

My kids were on it as young as 4 and 1..and we explained anything that went on was fake and for fun..NO problems.;)

I just covered my dd5's eyes as we went past the alien. I could see it coming. The only other thing that scared her was the witch in the Wizard of Oz.
