"Is the Flying Dutchman Curse Broken?"

In addition to him coming back at sunSET not sunRISE. If it were the 1 day every 10 years, why would he come back at the time he had to leave immediately again, as he only gets from sunrise to sunset (not even a full day). So I totally disagree with anyone who says there is NOTHING to point to a curse not being broken.

Us not knowing 100% without debate is what makes this great! They did this on purpose...just like making us wait through the credits. They knew the masses would leave. It is a win -win for everyone. If they want to do something later they can with the story. Brilliant!

I'm one of the weirdos who hope the curse ISN'T broken. It would not make sense with the rest of the story, and there is no indication in AWE that even hints that the curse would be broken. And I'm also probably the only weirdo who hopes they DON'T make another movie! They tied everything up perfectly in AWE. Now I suppose they could go make another trilogy like Star Wars, make it Will III's journey to piracy or something, but NOT along the same story-arc. They tied all that off. It's done, and a fitting end. :)

I did not read it the way you took it. I read they were saying No I will not give you the dialogue. Not No he can not stay on land.

^^^ "No. You have to go by what's on the film!" was the writer's direct response to whether or not the curse was broken. If the writer had intended it as a response to the missing dialogue, he would have said something entirely different. ;)

Narnian Princess, you aren't a weirdo at all, and it isn't about hoping for a broken curse. It is a fact the curse isn't broken. In an earlier post I had already explained how the green flash and a broken curse had nothing to do with each other. Also, let' not forget that a 24 hour period can take place from sunset to sunset the same as from sunrise to sunrise.

Here's some more evidence regarding an unlifted/unbroken curse. This is what Terry Rossio, writer of POTC, wrote on Wordplayer:

Posted by Terry on Wednesday, 23 May 2007, at 12:04 a.m., in response to Re: Mr. Rossio I have 3 questions SPOILERS, posted by tita on Tuesday, 22 May 2007, at 8:40 p.m.

You might be able to derive that the curse could be broken from the information in the film, but it would be indeed difficult. For me, it doesn't make sense if you presume there is no difference, you can come to shore once every ten years if your love is true, you can come to shore once every ten years if your love isn't true.) My other point still applies -- Jones corrupted himself by his own choice to abandon the task assigned him. Calypso did not control that choice.

MrsCoraPoe of course you are right about the answer Mr. Rossio gave Lauren. It was indeed in reference to whether or not Will could stay on land with Liz (i.e., whether or not the curse is lifted). Mr. Rossio's answer was not about the missing dialogue but about whether or not Will could stay on land with Liz. IMHO, his answer is a resounding "No."

Here it is:
Posted by Lauren on Wednesday, 13 June 2007, at 12:25 p.m. Hey Ted and Terry! I know y'all are busy, but if you wouldn't mind, do you think you could give us the dialogue or part of the dialogue from the scene that got cut from the movie (the one that explains that Will can stay on land with Liz). I believe that it is a happy ending and I feel that I completely understand this movie- but I would die to see that dialogue Thanks!

Terry Rossio's answer to Lauren:

No, you have to go with what's in the film.@

If are to go by what's in the film ALONE, as Mr. Rossio himself suggests, then there is ample evidence against a broken curse. Here's what Elizabeth's father, Governor Swann says in AWE: "I learned that if you stab the heart, yours must take its place. And you will sail the seas for eternity. The Dutchman must have a Captain. Silly thing to die for."

To me that makes it quite clear that the curse isn't broken. This is CANON because it was in the movie itself. There is no getting around it. Couple that with Mr. Rossio's post above where he says that the lover's faithfulness (or lack of it) has nothing to do with the curse being lifted, then my friends you have your answer.
