Is the cost per point really going to $140?

On various threads I'm reading murmurings that Disney's per point cost is moving to $140 on September 20th 2008. Can anyone confirm that this is the case? We just closed our first contract, and are looking to do an add-on in the future, but if the per point cost is going to shoot up that high, I'm wondering if I'm better off to borrow the money and get the lower per point cost next week. If anyone can confirm this rumour as either true or false that would be great. Thanks.

It is rumor and speculation, in the history of DVC there has never been a single 40% price increase to the base per point price, even when opening a new resort. Prices have doubled over the course of 17 years, but there have been many small increases during that time, not one 40% increase.

I'd think that its highly unlikely that the price per point would increase that much next week.

I suspect somebody is thinking that when the new DVC units open at the Contemporary that the price will increase substantially. But that seems to be faulty logic to me as well. Why raise the price per point substantially when they can accomplish the same thing by just raising the number of points per night at the new resort?

Wouldn't surprise me actually. When I was at the Getaway Days event at DL earlier this year, they said the days of $100 points were coming to an end. That made me feel they'd go up a bit. Actually, going up by $32 or so isn't as bad as I was afraid.

Yeah, the economy is bad, but they have a lot of things in their favor for this: long-term real estate in a trusted company, and considering GCV, something that is going to be in high demand and short supply.

Wow! I would hope not. It makes what we paid back 11 years ago look
REALLY Cheap!

I think we will know I a week or 2. If they do raise the price by more than $25 for BLT, my opinion is that they will loose or slow a large percentage of the potential sales and who ever was in charge of marketing will be looking for a new job when sales are less than 50% of projections at the end of the year. Even without the larger price increase I think DVC has missed the maximum demand time for BLT. If they try to raise AKV and the other sold out resorts more than a little their sales will slow to a trickle also, especially when you can get a studio for $160+/nt at many times during the year.

Just my opinion, but you cannot do marketing based on what existed 6-12 months ago.

I don't think a huge price increase would be appropriate. I think the best thing would just be for the rooms at the new Contemporary building to cost more points than those at other resorts.

By the way, I just got back from Walt Disney World. When the new building was just a hole in the ground, it was easy for them to deny what it was. But now, it's pretty hard to ignore. It's kind of silly and funny that the place is so far along, and they're still not admitting what it is.

NO.

Frankly, I have a hard time seeing how they could raise it even $3. I think we'll find that even if rack rates are raised, there will be new "incentives" that bring the actual price back down to around what the market has it at right now.

Does anyone out there have any historical data from OKW on based on price/pt before and after new resorts were announced? There may be a pattern that we could make an educated guess on rather than speculation.

Raising the price per point to that level would be foolish. In this uncertain economy that would certainly turn off perspective buyers as well as start an avalanche of DVC sellers.

$140 with a $30 Magical Money discount plus 5000 developer points, a $500 gift card, 3 fast passes, and a ice cream cone. :rotfl2:

It could be, maybe thats why everyone took money out of the stock market today, to spend on BLT instead.

If The price was really about to jump up to $140, then why would DVC be so lax on ROFR recently? If I knew for sure that I could buy something for $80 or less and resell it for $140, I would most likely get my hands on as much inventory as I could! I agree with other posters who believe that the point structure for BLT will probably be much higher than the current resorts and that the cost per point will not raise by very much.

A little off topic here but have they officially announced DVC at the contemporary?

There has been no official announcement yet from Disney as far as the plans for this construction.
