I was just looking at some older stuff. We have never been to Disneyland June is our first trip. I was just wondering.

Thanks

Thank you for asking, I would love to know as well! I read about it in an older guidebook and was looking forward to touring the castle. Then I read that access to the interior of the castle was closed, very disappointing. I hope they re-open it, or allow tours upon request.

I think this is one of those often overlooked gems of the park. I talked to friends who had been to DL several times (as children mostly), and none of them knew that there was an interior to the castle and that you could go inside!

If anyone has photos from this or a website with more information I would be grateful. I am a Disney fanatic and this is my first trip to Disneyland and am extremely disapointed. Thanks

Jenn

I loved that display! When we went on a tour last may, I believe she said that there was some problem with the building and that it would not be reopened.

My understanding is that it is a security issue.

They closed it after 9/11 and never reopened it.

Basically, it was a little walk-through you could do (I think it was an "A" ticket back in the olden days) with a diorama of Sleeping Beauty.

It really wasn't all that exciting. When we walked through it 12 years ago (the last time I was there) I was pretty disappointed. It was just a bunch of stairs cases with a diorama of sleeping beauty at each landing. It was kinda like reading the book. I read somewhere that it was closed because the stairs were so narrow and that it would never be able to be made accessible to physically handicapped people.

I was able to walk through Feb of 2000. Exactly like other posters said, it was a book diorama of Sleeping Beauty. It was nice to actually be inside the castle. Just went again Feb 3, 2006. I was told it was closed, but not why. They pointed me over to the temporary Chronicles of Narnia display/walkthrough but I couldn't find it. I am forever directionally challenged. Both DS's got pictures with the White Witch though who was totally in character. She made both DS's bow to her. :teeth:

Gosh, would love to get a picture of the White Witch, but I think she'd scare the daylights out of my sweet DS5! He doesn't know the story, but from other posters' accounts, it sounds like she's very much in character. :)

Anyone have any more information on this? That is just the kind of thing that I love about Disney and slowly they are all dissappearing.

Thanks

I got to take my daughter through this as well, in June 2001. It was very narrow and dark and the stairs were steep in some places. She is weird about stairs and it was kinda miserable. She did better at Tarzan because she could see the stairs.

The displays were very pretty but they were obviously from the early days of the park. They had just kinda been kept up but not added to or improved in the last 50 years. It was nice...and she was as a Sleeping Beauty fan so I'm glad we got to go, but it wasnt that exciting that I am all that sad its gone.

I would love for them to do something with the space though. Inside the castle is a magical place. It would be cool to add something there. Not room for a Cinderella's Royal Table probably, although there is that little store there too.

Does anyone know what else is inside the castle? It is a pretty big space to just have that walkthrough and the one little shop...

We took the Walk in Walt's Footsteps Tour last November and I asked the tour guide about this attraction. He said that it was closed because it was not wheel chair accessible. He said that all attractions in Disneyland need to be able to be enjoyed by everyone so they closed it. I thought this was unfortunate since it was kind of a neat, different area to explore. Not a big deal but still a bummer. There are no plans to reopen it. Marilyn

It closed the day we started bombing Iraq. The walkthrough was too hard to moniter and was too high of a target to keep open. It was not closed because of accessability issues. That is just the story Disney uses to the general public.

I read somewhere (maybe Jim Hill's website?) that it was closed initially to repair termite damage; and at some point it was determined that it was impossible to make the walkthrough ADA compliant . . . so it was closed permanetly.

I don't care why it is closed, but it will be forever sad for me and my husband as we were engaged in there (12/10/99) while "dancing" to Once Upon a Dream...

I'm sorry to see it closed. I only saw it once...my family has never seen it. What a shame.
