Is the BCV laundry free and where is it?

As someone who plans to stay mostly in a studio, could someone please give some more info on the laundry facilities at BCV.

Yes, the BCV laundry is free. Ask for the location when you check-in. It's pretty easy to find. I would pack laundry soap and softener sheets. I also like to bring a collapsable, pop-up laundry hamper (available at Wal*Mart, etc).

Is the laundry facility located in or near the Villas or are they located near the pool area?

btw...great idea using that type of laundry hamper!

If memory serves me right, there are two washers & four dryers. I could be wrong though. There are machines to buy detergent and such, but I always bring my own. I also bring those collapsable hampers as a previous poster mentioned - I got mine at Target. They fold flat for packing in a suitcase.

We stayed in a BCV studio for 9 nights last December. So, with an 18 mo. old we did ALOT of laundry!

This might sound odd and no I am not planning on doing this since I will be staying at BCVs but how do they keep other people out of free laundry...esp BC/YC guests?

Well, it would be a real hike from the YC just to use a free laundry, and a big enough hike from the BC also. There is a pay laundry at the BC quiet pool, I suspect one at the YC also.

Other than that, I would say there is nothing stopping them.

Which is exactly why I didn't disclose the location of the laundry, even though I knew it. People probably won't wander around looking for it. However, if they know where it is, how much more is it for them to roll their suitcase up to the FREE laundry rather the one that will cost them $4 per load?

There is really no reason for someone to know exactly where the laundry is until they get there. I would like to ask lisareniff to please edit her post and remove that information.

Yes thats what I was thinking b/c the luandry is very expensive to do there! You'd think they would look the door and you would need to put your key in to open it, and it would have to be a villas key or something like that.

I can imagine that showing up as the new "tip" on the Budget Board!! :crazy2:

Just curious...can anyone go up to the front desk and ask where the laundry is located in the villas, or do you think they would ask for proof that you were staying there?? If you enter the villas are there signs or a map that leads to the laundry? So if someone knew the villas laundromat was free, they could find it. I can't imagine anyone being that desperate to save a few dollars, but I guess they're out there. I agree that some type of entry key for those in studios could keep it from being abused if there is a problem. I've often wondered if there are people at BW who are not in the villas using the washer/dryers with them being so close to the main pool.

A key card would be nice wouldn't it? I seem to remember one guide book actually saying that there is a free laundry at WL, in the villas section!! While I can't imagine someone wanting to walk the distance, I'm sure someone would just to save a little money ($5 in most cases). Always wondered about the laundry at BWV also. It's pretty close to 'everyday' traffic.
But rest assured those of you who don't know where it is....when you check in you will get a handy dandy little site map and it will have it on there.

Can you just imagine the comments someone would get walking out of BCV, along the covered walkway, with a bag of nicely folded laundry??

I thought the room did require a card key to open it. But if there is someone else coming in or going out, you just have to wait for them to open the door. Kind of like the pool at VB.

Wasn't there a thread recently on the difference between "frugal" and "cheap"? :rotfl:

I also think a key card would be an excellent idea. How about needing your room key card to start the machine? And if that sounds cheap, I know I've been to hotels where you have to insert your room key card to get the ice machine to operate. No free ice if you walk in off the street!

Thats how the ice machine works at the Montauk Yacht Club and it isnt cheap to stay there!

Sounds like a great idea to me, too. :wave2:

It's hard for me to imagine anyone staying at a different resort lugging their dirty laundry to a DVC and using the "free" washers  ... that to me would be "cheap" not "frugal"... :rolleyes1 but I guess it takes all kinds of people to make a world. :rolleyes2 Seems to me if I can afford the vacation, I can spring for the $4 to do a load of wash! Having the machines operate with the key card would certainly solve the problem ::yes::

I'm curious, though, since I'm a "newbie"... bought in June :cool1: ... has anyone ever seen anyone using the laundry room who looked like they came from outside the DVC resort? :scratchin

Thanks for all the deleted replies. I did get to find out what I needed to know thanks to suscribing to this thread. I feel kind of silly now, we are getting DVC for the free laundry.......if we had only known.
