We have 3 boys, ages 4, 7 and 9 and are trying to put our list of restaurants together as our 180 days is approaching. Some have said T Rex is a must with boys....any thoughts? We have never been to Downtown Disney....just wondering if it's worth the trip there. Any other suggestions? Any input is appreciated! Thanks!:)

If your boys are into dinosaurs, they will love it. I thought the food was good and the atmosphere is unique. DTD also has the big Lego store with cool Lego sculptures that is great for kids, as well as the HUGE World of Disney store. You could easily make an evening of it.

On the other hand, if it will mess with your schedule or end up being too much hassle to work in a trip to DTD, it may not be worth it. There are plenty of other meals they are sure to enjoy, and if you don't get their hopes up about it and then cancel, they will not miss anything.

Basically, if it easily fits within your vacation plans, I say go for it! Your kids are the perfect age to enjoy it :)

We ate here for the first time in May. Our children were 4 and 2 at that time and they enjoyed looking around at everything and playing in the dig site. The food we thought was very good, but on the expensive side but they give you a lot for that money too.

Do I think it's a meal to go out of your way for, no. If you are planning to spend time in DTD then I say go for it, but there are also other great places there to eat other then T-Rex. If you've never been to DTD you might want to look in to Disney Quest as I hear children your boys ages really enjoy it :). There's so many great stores in DTD to shop and eat at if you need some down time from the parks and don't want to be at the resort :goodvibes

We Have two boys ages 7 and 6...took them there...and they absolutely love it! Agree with previous post, a little expensive, food IS good though. And there is some kind of desert that is flaming or smoking or something that the table next to us got...next time, i'm gettin it too. have fun

It depends on your schedule. We generally do not plan any time at DTD. We find it difficult to get to as the buses just seem to take forever getting there. We prefer our time in the parks. If you have a non park day, then it's a great choice. If not, I would consider Rain Forrest Cafe on your AK day instead. Still fun theme and so much easier to get to.

I'm pretty sure we'll be going to DTD the night we get in. T Rex sounds like something Jelly would FLIP for.

My son (9) says yes. Though he says you can just get an extinction and enjoy the restaurant. It doesn't have to be a full on meal.

We went 2 years ago when my son was 7 and my daughter was 4 - they both loved it. The food was fine - far from my favorite tho but the atmosphere was very loud and chaotic (great for the kids but a little too much for me at the end of a Disney Day). This year my son asked to go and since my mom is traveling with us she kindly offered to take the kids there while DH and I celebrate out 14th anniversary at V&A's - the best of both worlds.
A word of caution though - if you can get out of there without getting sucked in to the Build-a-Dino you are stronger than I :)

We have a 5 year old boy and he loves it. Heck, I love it too! We always plan it for our Animal Kingdom day since AK closes at 5pm and we're generally ready to leave before then anyway. We also love DTD. The Lego store is fun, the giant Disney store rocks, and we absolutely have to visit the candy store now that I've discovered dipped Mickey rice krispie treats.

As far as an ADR goes - just call T-Rex. It's nearly impossible to get the reservation on the Disney site. If you just call T-Rex directly, they always have what you want. Best of luck!

YES its totally worth going there. Your kids will LOVE IT! its so much fun. The food is quite yummy. Sure its not the cheapest place around, but the kids meal prices are quite reasonable from what i remember. Its the adult meals that are pricey. Not sure if your 4 yr old will be afraid, but if you can sit in the iceroom, do it. Its fun being in the middle of the meteor shower. check it out on youtube first if you want. As for the noise, yes its loud but its expected since there's a meteor shower every few minutes.

I must be a complete moron cause in all my years going to TREX, not once have i even noticed the build-a-dino section. LOL! :lmao:

Thank you all for your input. We are going to go ahead and book...my 180 days is 2 weeks out yet. I am trying to decide where else to go...I think we will do T Rex, Be Our Guest, Ohanna, Teppan Edo, 50s PrimeTime Cafe...and we need 2 others....If you can think of anything else that you feel we really should try, I would appreciate it!!!!
Thanks!!!!

It's worth mentioning that last year we did Chef Mickey, BOMA, Yak and Yeti, Coral Reef, Kona Cafe and Mama Melrose...while we had some great meals, we want to try all new!!! Thanks!

What about Via Napoli in Epcot or Sci-Fi in HS? Your boys might get a kick out of eating their meal in a car watching old movie clips :).

Have you done Donald's Safari Breakfast @ AK? It's one of our favorites. Really good food and fun character interaction. Very cute photo ops with the characters in their khaki safari gear. And if you get one of the earliest ADRs you can be one of the first to ride on Safari that morning too!

I have girls, ages 7 and 5, and they loved T-Rex! The 7 year old is nuts about dinosaurs so she found it really fascinating. We also did the Build-A-Dino there after. The food was good, and the atmosphere was fantastic.

That is a great time of year to go. My boys liked Liberty Tree in MK and asked to do Crystal Palace this time. Be sure to do the Palawan Training at HS if your boys like Star Wars.

Thanks for the input...trying to decide between Teppan Edo, Ohanna or both now! Trying to determine whether they are too similar.....

They aren't even close to being similar. Teppan Edo is a teppanyaki style restaurant where 8 ppl sit around a flat "grill" and watch a chef prepare meat & veggies with a bit of flare and fun. You order specific meat, appys and dessert.

'Ohana is more like a Brazilian steakhouse for food where they bring you unlimited meat on Skewers and slide some off into your plate. There's pot stickers and wings to start, salad, noodles, veggies. Served family style at your table, unlimited quantity. And a yummy dessert. During dinner a Hawaiian entertainer gets the patrons involved in n activity, such as a konga line and limbo. You get a lei for participating. The kids enjoy it.

T-Rex is so cool. You have to see it. I would suggest Sci-fi also or we also enjoy Garden Grill in Epcot for family style

Trex is a must for us! Me Dh DS27 and DDIL26. We love it. If your kids are not shy they should like 50s. But if they are, like mine was, I would skip it. I am going back prob 15 years and he still won't eat in the restaurant. But loves the food and we eat at the bar. RFC is good too! Depending on where you will help in planning dinners too. Scifi if it is a Studios day. So many choices!! :goodvibes If you can get to the Boardwalk area easily. The ESPN is fun. TVs everywhere. Even in the bathrooms!!
