Is Switching Resorts During Stay Too Much Trouble?

We have ressies to stay at BWV in Sept., but I'd also like to stay at CSR - the themeing looks great! Will it be a big headache to pack up mid-stay and move over to CSR? Let me know. Thanks, Sue.

This past January we stayed at the Swan and then moved to the Poly, it was not a problem. The only difference is that if we were staying in one location we would have unpacked all our clothes. Since we were moving 1/2 way through the trip we just lived out of our suitcases.

Some folks think it's a huge problem, but it's never bothered me,and we've done it mnay times.

Basically, the day you are going to move, pack your stuff, call Bell Services, and tell them you are transferring to another hotel. They will get your bags there.Go and do your day, and when you are ready to go back to the hotel, go back to your new one, check in, and they should have your bags to your room within a few minutes. Like I said, we've done it very often and have never had a problem.

The only other suggestion I would make is to stay at the better hotel last. For example, if you want to stay at POR and the BC, stay at POR first, as it has less amenities. If you stay at the BC first, then POR will be a step down, and you'll be disappointed.

I would have to say that depends entirely on your own feelings. For me, If I have a choice, I don't want to switch resorts. I like to unpack when I get to my resort and hate the packing/upacking/packing/unpacking part and loading and unloading. This just my opinion, others here love switching resorts and almost make a sport out of it ;) To each his own.

I have to agree with Disney Doll here as well. If you do decide to switch resorts, make sure you stay in the 'nicer' one last. It just makes it easier to go up than to go down, so to speak.

The largest number of resort "hops" for me during any one vacation happened over Christmas 2001. We started out in CBR, then hopped to CR, followed by AKL, then onto OKW, followed by BWV, and ended up at CBR again. There was a lot of packing going on but the moves were flawless. Sometimes we handled them via taxi cabs and sometimes we let our resort transfer our luggage for us (which option we chose depended upon our plans for that particular day). We have resort hopped many, many times and will continue to do so as the mood strikes us.

This is all my humble opinion, and others' opinions may vary, as it should be.

We resort hopped on our last trip - going from the CR to the AKL - each for 3 nights. It was fun to take advantage of what each location had to offer. We didn't get the moving in feeling that we have on our previous trips though, that we do when staying in the same room for the entire time. We tended to only unpack bathroom items, etc., where we usually empty the suitcases into the dresser completely.

I would second the other posters opinions on doing the moderate, CBR, first. Not only would it be hard to go from the larger unit to the smaller one, you will have the laundry/kitchen stuff available at the Villas - handy after several days of travel!

I have done it many times... sometimes when I want to split the vacation between the Epcot side and the MK side.. I never found it a problem...but then again I never really unpack... I live out of my suitcase... I prefer to do it that way... I know some unpack and put their clothes in the drawers and then the put the suitcases away.. but we never do.. we are ready to go at any minute.. LOL

I always thought it would be a problem, and I really wouldnt want to do it. Then we were able to get a great rate for the Poly(my favorite place) if we added on an extra night to our trip. So, I did it and found out it wasnt bad at all. We have done it again since, and its well worth it. Usually we only change for 1 night which a lot of people think isnt worth it, but we have to pack up to leave anyway, so for 1 night, we only have to unpack the few things we will need for then.
So, from someone who used to be pretty much against it, it really isnt that bad.

We changed resorts once. Wasn't bad at all.

We went from 5 nights at GF to 3 nights at CR. My family was mad at first because the CR is ugly compared to GF. But it turned out to be the best switch. 8 nights is perfect for WDW - you can start to relax at the end of the trip. So, the CR had a slide (this was before GF had one), they have a great arcade, and a playground. My kids ended up loving the CR.

I agree with those who say stay at the deluxe last. This June we are staying 4 nights at CBR and 4 nights at Poly. This is our 5th trip to WDW so I expect some relaxing nights in the tropics!!

I absolutely hate it and avoid it at all cost. I like to completely unpack when I get to my resort and the thought of having to repack and unpack mid trip is just awful. Everyday I think, that, OK tomorrow we can't head to the park because we have to pack and get everything moved, then recheck in and unpack and get settled, and before you know, most of the day is shot! Being a CM family we can only have a ressie for 7 days, so if we're there longer we have to have more than one ressies. There is ALWAYS the possibility that we may be moved at the end of one ressie to the beginning of the next ressie. We have to do this in July. We have ressies for the CR at at cast rate and I wanted to add 3 additional days to my 7 day ressie (which means making another ressie), and now ALL of the cast discounted rooms are sold out at the CR for our dates (last week of July) for the standard wing rooms (tower was available), so we have ressies for 3 days at the Music then 7 days at the CR. So have NO choice but to move. My own fault for not doing in in Novmeber when cast discounted rooms came out for the 2003 year. So JMHO, don't move it you don't have too.

I love switching resorts on vacation. If we are going to the parks, I will book one of the Allstars since we won't be in the room very much. Then, for the last few days, I will book a mod or delux. By doing this, I feel we really get our money out of the more expensive resort since we utilize their amenities.

The last time we stayed at 2 resorts, DH had to do the switch since I was in Celebration's hospital. (don't ask! ;)) If he can do it without complaining, anyone can. DH said he had to ask the front desk where he was going since he had no clue. They set everything up for him and all he had to do was pack.

Granted, switching isn't for everyone. If you feel it is worth it, go for it. Keep a bag out with swim suites if you are not going to the parks that day. The luggage usually doesn't get delivered until after 4pm, but if you plan around it, there shouldn't be any problems. I agree with saving the best resort for last, especially if you are staying at DVC. Save that free washer until you need it. :p
