Is stroller theft a problem at the parks

Last time we were in MK we had two umbrella strollers. We would just fold one up and lay it on top of the other when ever we "parked". It worked great. Once we did park them side by side though and one stroller was missing when we returned. Not too surprised though...it was a Walmart stroller and there were about 10 million of them there!! Figured it was an honest mistake so....we took someone else's! :confused3
How klassy of you
Genius! Lol!

Reading follow up replies to this suggestion, it could be just a dry diaper rolled up to appear used. :)

Everyone including the thieves know this "trick". If I was a thief I would steal that stroller because the people were so stupid to assume I wouldn't know the "trick" and they probably had something valuable in their stroller. Heck I would leave their dirty diaper bag right where they left their stroller

Add in a Hershey's bar and in the hot Fla sun, that diaper will look reeeeeal used in no time.

(Sarcasm)

I like to attach really ugly stickers to my stroller to make it I attractive to thrives and to be able to find it quickly. They are a pain to take off but I've never had it stolen!

WOW..... Two wrongs don't make a right. So glad you're such an awesome role model!

If one stroller is "missing", it may have just been moved by the castmembers, which happens frequently. To answer the original question, we and friends and family members have been there with expensive strollers and relatively inexpensive umbrella strollers (never the true cheapie ones because my wife would not let our poor little spoiled precious ones' heads touch such things), and never had a problem.

I've never had a problem with someone stealing DD's stroller but that's not to say that it hasn't happened to others. From 1-3 DD had a Maclaren Juicy Couture stroller, quite high end and every now and again we'd exit an attraction and find someone admiring it. I was never under the impression that someone was going to try to take off with it though.

I upgraded to a Zooper in 2012 as she had outgrown the Maclaren. The print I chose fits in perfectly with the Poly decor (brown with tropical flowers) and in all of our travels I've never seen anyone else with it. It's really pretty but I bought it because if someone did take it, it wouldn't be hard to find! ;)

I had a friend whose stroller (a common one recently bought at Target) wasn't anywhere to be found when they got off a ride in HS. By the time they realized it was missing, their phone started to ring. Another family with the same stroller walked off with my friend's, and once they realized it they called the phone number written on an ID tag my friend had on the stroller. Within minutes, my friend had her stroller back and the other family found theirs. Yay for happy endings! :)

THis why we choose to rent a City mini instead of bringing our own. I wear DD through the airport, we have her carseat for the plane and transportation to/from airport - so we don't need a stroller there. We don't leave anything we'd miss in the stroller basket, and we get insurance on the stroller so if it is taken, we're not left with having to buy them a whole new stroller.

Much easier and less stress

I didn't think stroller theft was an issue but my neighbor just returned from a trip and her stroller was stolen. She said that while talking to security she overheard one them say it was the 4th stroller stolen that day. I would consider renting one if possible.

It seems like people would notice the stroller thieves since they would be pushing the stroller with no little one. Then again, I don't really pay attention to other people while we are touring.

. Honestly if I was a thief I would target the stroller with the bag just because the person assumes I'm that stupid to fall for this "trick". Whip the bag of and walk away. It took me two seconds longer to take your stroller

This made me LOL. A vindictive stroller thief.

Related question, we plan to take our own stroller.
But here is my question, I hope to keep the diaper bag in the basket so I don't have to carry it on all rides.
Do you think this would be a problem? I won't have any valuables in it, but would hate to lose diapers and wipes mid day. :rotfl:

This is my same question....I will have my backpack on me that will have camera, phone, etc but want to be able to leave the diaper bag that has spare clothes, water bottles, snacks, etc in it in the bottom of the stroller. I will be covering the stroller in a rain shield so I would assume it would be difficult for someone to GET to the bag to steal it...right?

I thought about buying this lock to hook the bag to the stroller, but not sure if that is a good idea or not. I thought I would lock it to one of the bars under the stroller seat.

I would feel comfortable leaving my skip hop pronto changer alone in the stroller (provided I would have at least one diaper's change worth of supplies in whatever other bag I was carrying).

If it got taken, it wouldn't be the end of the world. We'd still have diapers/wipes/diaper cream (the only things we keep in it) back at the hotel to replenish what we need in the park.

I wouldn't leave the diaper bag if its a "fancy" higher end bag. We usually use an old Jansport backpack and keep it in the stroller basket. I keep the high chair cover, a change of clothes, food, water bottles and ponchos in the backpack and the diaper changer (a skip hop pronto) is in the basket and clipped to the bar. It's clipped mostly so it doesn't accidentally fall out and get lost. The backpack we use is a dark color so it sorta blends in with the bottom of the basket.

I know stroller theft happens, but it s relatively rare. I've taken high-end strollers for years and have ever had a problem. I've also read that about half the "stolen" strollers are accidental thefts--someone takes a similar stroller to theirs, realizes it and leaves it somewhere else in the park where security matches it up with proper owner if reported.

I also leave my diaper bag, when I've had one, in the stroller. It never has anything of real value. My theory is if you need diapers and wipes that badly, you're welcome to them. I've always given them to people who asked anyhow. Just paying it forward. I always bring more than I'll need, just in case. My 3yo used the same diaper bag my 12yo used (and 9yo, and 7yo)--it pays to spend money upfront on a high-end diaper bag. lol

We're getting a balloon first thing when we get to the park to tie to it and we're going to be wrapping our bars in neon tape (I'm using the kind that only sticks to itself, that way it's still difficult to unwrap, but it won't get sticky residue on anything like duct tape might). I'm also going to take one of our old (metal) license plates, paint over it in neon paint, write our name on it with a sharpie, and attach it to the handle with a cable lock wound through the screw holes.

I'm mostly hoping this helps with recognizability, but it should also deter any would-be thieves as well.

have a couple in my garage have to get busy now.....lol:worship:

We always clip a small emergency strobe on our stroller somewhere so it's easy to find at night. Plus, we use a ski lock or short bike chain through the wheel at night since mistaken identity is more likely than theft.
