So as a relatively new listener to the DIS Unplugged (which I love!!) I would hear Pete use the motto (as well as I would see a sign in the studio) that says, "stay out of the damn lakes." I know everyone here understands why, as the lakes are awful for a variety of reasons - so good advice.

In an awful irony, there was the tragedy in June with the boy that was killed by an alligator in Bay Lake. On the 6/28 news show when Pete returned I was curious on his thoughts (considering how much he forewarned about this) and heard him mention around the 12 minute mark in reference to that saying, "...effective with this show I am now retiring that"

Just a few days ago on the 8/2 News (and then on today's 8/9) show I heard Pete close the show with, "...and remember, stay out of the damn lakes"

Honestly I really don't care either way. I saw a post where some folks thought that motto was actually quite frank and helpful so having it around is a good idea. I too actually think it is a good message especially since so many who plan to travel watch the podcast.

So just being curious, since I heard Pete mention so explicitly it was being retired and now a month later it's back, just wondering which is it? Thanks!

I think it was the week after Pete said he was retiring it that he saw parents letting their kids swing/climb on the ropes close to the water. I guess he figured people still weren't getting the message so decided not to retire it. I for one am glad he did not retire his signature phrase.

It didn't stay retired long. A week or so later, I think they mentioned overhearing a parent talking to their kids about the water and Pete decided to keep saying it because clearly it needed to be said.

Even though your question was answered, I just wanted to pop over and say... :welcome: to the boards!! :)

Agreed. Welcome, Allen!

Thanks NikkiBell & disneysteve! Yeah a bit overdue joining here as I'm a big WDW and Disney fan overall. Tripped over DIS Unplugged on YouTube while watching a load of Disney related stuff and the rest is history, here I am! Seems like a cool place with nice people. Thanks again for the warm welcome :disrocks:

@Allen Conway I see you're a Florida resident. Are you local to the parks?

I also see you're a Horizon fan, so bonus points for that!

Yes, I'm up the road only about 75 minutes from the parks which is really nice. Can go whenever and come back the same day, so no complaints here!

Yeah I know it's nostalgia with Horizons, but I rode it when I was a kid and thought it was the best dark ride. The multi-ending was cool, the scenes, the music, it was all great. Really the epitome of classic EPCOT. It's too bad it lost sponsorship and the building was junk. It was like Carousel of Progress on steroids.

I think this site stalled a bit, but this is a cool VR look at the ride if you haven't seen it:
