Is Star Wars today worth it for us?

Going to be in Disneyworld over the dates of the Star Wars days and am wondering if you think it is worth it for us?

Going with a 4 year old who is Star Wars crazy (wants to do Jedi training and ride Star Tours) and an 11 year old who could care less more into Tower or Tower and Rock and Roll Roller Coaster. The other people in our group 2 year old, 3 year old and 5 year don't care either, they are into the younger kid stuff anyway. All the adults would love seeing it, but wondering how badly it will affect the crowds.

Any guess the lines on a Star Wars day compared to a normal one for Toy Story Mania, Rock and Roll Roller Coaster or Jedi training?

We are not into the autographs or meeting the theme characters, but would enjoy seeing them from a distance. I would also love to see other people dressed up, I'd heard that happens, just wondering if it is worth the longer waits.

I've heard if the park opens at 8am, get there at 6:45 is that only to wait in the lines for autographs or in general?

Any thoughts?

Jenn

We have never been into the autographs but it is fun to see the actors. I would also make time for the character parade through the park. That's a quick, easy way to see the outfits that so many wear.

SWW are great fun, characters everywhere. One of the best parts of it though IMO is getting pictures with the characters. That being said there is enough going on that it's still a great time. It's usually pretty crowded and as the weekends roll on even more so. The final weekend is a nut house, trust me! But, alas, I will be there again this year!! :crazy2: :chewy: :darth: :yoda:

Don't mind the general craziness, just wondering if the rides are MUCH longer wait times. Don't need to get to all of them, but want to see Tower or Terror, Rock and Roll, and Star Tours at a minimum, not likely to try to sit through any shows. Part of our group their priority is Toy Story Mania so figure they would need to do that first. I won't be able to get any fastpasses until the day of (am staying off site and I have old tickets so need to trade them in) and figure Fastpasses will be long gone by then.

Is the odds of getting Jedi training much less on a Star Wars day? Are the wait time for the regular attractions much worse?

I love being able to walk around and seeing a glimpse of everything, but no need to wait for characters, my kiddos are not really into that, happy to see from afar. Not likely to sit through any Star Wars shows, just want to enjoy the atmosphere and I saw there was a special parade.

What would you suggest as a plan of attack given our situation?

years since we went to SWW. It was not a trip just for that but a year when SWW crossed over into June.

It will be crowded. At that time they had early morning sign ups for pictures with the actors. The line for the picture with Jedi Mickey was at least an hour. (That sounds tame with the Anna and Elsa lines.)

The best part for me was the various characters just strolling around the imperial area. There were some posing for pictures: Darth Vader, the emperor and Bobo Fett to name a few. But it was the random minor characters that I found most entertaining.

Last year I don't recall the lines to be to bad for the rides (cept Toy Story). However the line for Jedi training was crazy long (meaning we got one of the later shows) and we got there about 45 minutes after park opening (I didn't realize they opened early the day we went). Thankfully they have more shows and bigger groups so it's not impossible, but it is definitely high demand.

We are in the same situation as you. My boys like Star Wars but are not crazy over i. I've already scheduled HS for another day, so we would have to rearrange plans to get over there on the weekend. But part of me says we are there, so we should at least check it out. I'm totally on the fence about it.

Having experienced SWW last year with a 6 1/2 year old (my kid) and an 8 year old (friend's kid) I told my family that we can't do it as a family trip until our youngest is at least 5. There are plenty of little kids there, but it's a long, hot, crowded weekend and I personally think that they need to be a bit older to handle it. It's super crowded and the lines are looong. TSM had a 120 minute+ wait all day long, so non-Star Wars stuff is definitely affected by the crowd there. DHS in general is very, very crowded.

The signups for Jedi Training are nuts, and the line forms so quickly (and so aggressively) that you really have to fight for position. The Jedi Training sessions over SWW themselves are inferior to the standard show that's held every day...they're rushed and they cut out show elements. If you're going to be at Disney during a non-SWW day and your only priorities are Jedi Training and Star Tours, I'd wait and go to DHS those days and do those things instead. If you're not going to meet the Star Wars characters, then there's really no reason to subject the whole family to SWW, IMO.

We have hoppers but the rest of our group doesn't so am thinking to spend a half day there in the morning, but not sure how that would work yet and then meet them at Epcot or AK depends on where they are going. I just hate to get up super early if we can't do much, but I have promised to go on Star Tours, my son is finally meeting the height and I figure he doesn't like photos or meeting the characters but might want to do Jedi Training and I've never ridden Toy Story Mania. I'm off site so I am at a serious disadvantage. I also would like to see the parade and then just wander see the characters from a distance. I think he will be very excited and most likely the highlight of his trip!!!

I'm going to try to figure out a plan of attack for the day.

We went in 2012. It rained the first day so crowds were less. No lines for Star Tours but of course TSM was crazy. We didn't stand in lines for pictures with characters but they had stormtroopers roving around with a photopass photographer and you can do a magic shot with Darth Vader.

The crowds line up really early for the parade. We lucked into having our own personal parade as we were waiting for our FP time for TSM and had all the costumed characters walk right by us to get to backstage after the parade. We got some great photos what we wouldn't have been able to get with the crowded parade route.

We did come back in the afternoon two days later to enjoy the activities without the rain. This is why we always get PH when we go for SWW.

I think if you have a Star Wars fan, it is worth it to go. We are going this year. DH and DS are so excited!

The last time we went was the first weekend they officially opened the new Star Tours. The park was definitely more crowded than usual. That said, we did manage to ride Star tours 3 times (1 of those times with fastpass and the other 2 back to back because we got there at rope drop) and RR (45 minute wait and no FP). DH hates Tower so we skipped that.

A lot of people stand in line for the character autograph and photo ops so that tends to make some of the ride lines not as long as you'd imagine they'd be given the crowds.

Now that said, you can end up standing in line a long time to meet some of the more popular Star Wars characters. We went on Sunday specifically to get in line for Vader before his arrival time. We stood in line about 45 minutes before his first appearance so that we could meet him. We stood in line about 20 minutes for Boba Fett. We did not stand in the Chewbacca line, but it seemed pretty long.

We had our DD with us on that Sunday. She was 3 at the time and did ok in the lines as she could stay in her stroller the whole time.

I would say it's worth going if you have a son really into Star Wars. At least pop in if you have hoppers and let him have a look at all the stuff around the park.
