I am a mom and love star wars and all disney princesses! Is that odd?
Rumors right now are that some executives are worried that mommys and little princesses aren't going to go to star wars attractions like disney would like them too.
I definitely think disney wants parts of the new movies in the star wars stuff coming to the parks but I don't think that is the only reason for a hold. I also like screamscape but not always accurate when it comes to these things. I think disney has put the project on hold especially at WDW because of problems with MyMagic+. Nothing new really has been announced since that mess. Once they have it completely under control which they are getting there I think we will see an announcement. Many others have said an opening around 2020-21. So that would be an announcement around 2015-16 based on Disney's past. So 5-7 years until we see an actual opening of the land would make sense but not 5-7 years until just an announcement.Screamscape is reporting that Star Wars expansion announcements may be on hold for a while, as they may want to wait and see how popular the new movies are before deciding on what direction to take. If true, we could easily be 5-7 years (based off recent history) from seeing anything in this regard.
Ok, I'm going to be "that guy" and say, "Oh, but they're not worried that daddies and little princes aren't going to go to all the princess attractions, are they?"
There. I said it.

I meant 5-7 years until we see things opening, not until the announcement, so we are on the same page there. I had thought they would fast track this after the purchase of Lucasfilm, but those hopes are quickly diminishing.

I'm just reporting what I am hearing. I know it sounds crazy but knowing what disney executives do it actually doesn't surprise me. Disney princesses bring in the most revenue when it comes to merchandise and toys. Star Wars is right behind them at 2 or 3.
5-7 years?! If that's true, that would be a ridiculous amount of time for one land in the park. That's about double the amount of time that it took to build Hollywood Studios as a whole (which was about 3 years). Universal's new Harry Potter land is about to open after being announced a mere year ago, and that's a pretty ambitious project in its own right.
The only reason I can imagine something like this taking so long is that the accounting people are trying to space things out so there's not one large chunk on the books at any one time.
Still, these projects have been slowing to a crawl lately. I really hope they find a way to speed this up to the pace they used to develop at. Especially when you're talking a park like DHS, which is already struggling. Having a 1/4 of the park under construction for half a decade will definitely not help matters.
Oh, I know. I'm sure, with all the princess-related stuff, Disney has done studies to show that they're more lucrative than characters that skew more toward little boys.
That last phrase sounds horrible when taken out of context.

Highly doubtful that the two universal parks will gain that much from these expansions and sustain it.I completely agree with you. I think what your going to see is the two Universal parks overtake everything but Magic Kingdom in attendance in the next couple of years. Hopefully that will light a fire under some Disney execs to pour money into Orlando again, and be aggressive with it. I really think each park (other than MK) needs 2-3 major new attractions opened by the end of the decade. I think right now, we only know of 1, the E ticket that will be at Avatar in Animal Kingdom. And that is scheduled for 2018 I believe? I have very little faith that anything will change until one Universal park surpasses one of their parks here.
Hopefully once the FP+ fiasco is cleared through the books, they can make some real improvements to the parks again. I know its been said a thousand times on here, but I wish they could have left the old FP system alone, and invested that money in rides/shows/improvements in the parks.
One thing to consider...
If Star Wars is the #2 or #3 seller behind the princesses, that is actually really impressive. The princess stuff is blanketed throughout all of Disney. The Star Wars stuff is far less prolific in the parks, mainly in the Studios store by Star Tours and sprinkled here and there in other stores.

MK is at 18 million
Epcot close to 12 million
AK 10 million
DHS low 10 million
IOA and Universal were at 8 million
You are saying that both parks will gain 4+ million in two years when each year the WDW see an increase it may be a small increase but they do increase.
Yes I agree the more universal does Disney is bound to do big things eventually. Universal just filed permits for not just one hotel but three. Disney is doing what is has to right now but I do think big things for both companies are on the horizons.I'd agree here - Universal will grow, but probably not enough to overtake any of the Disney parks (at least, not yet). Disney has done an effective job of creating a theme park cocoon that discourages people from wanting to leave. The Magic Express, in-resort transportation and the My Magic system all are effective in that way. That said, if Universal continues to add compelling new attractions, increase the number of resorts they have and open that third gate that the rumor mill has been tossing around, they could make a significant dent in Disney's Orlando dominance. With enough parks and attractions to see, they will become an attractive alternative, especially for those who visit the Orlando area frequently. I hope it happens, Disney needs some competition to light a fire under them.
1 Disney just bought the company in 2012. Also it would be stupid for them to build something with new movies coming out starting next year. They would wait for the new ones if they were smart.
2. Universal isn't going to overtake Magic Kingdom EVER and Epcot wont be overtaken either. Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios maybe, but their numbers get bigger each year and they aren't even doing anything. So you can bet when Avatar opens and the new things come that Animal Kingdom will see a boost and Hollywood Studios will see a boost when they build stuff. Disney would have to sit and do NOTHING for years before Universal could overtake them. Not saying it couldn't happen to the two lowers but if it did Disney would bounce.
3. Two of those tree proposed hotels are looking to be more of extensions to the original hotels. That's why they are small 400 room hotels.
