Is splitting up resort stays a pain or a delight?

We are going the first week of October and staying at OKW. However, this time we chose to fly in the day before and stay at POP for 1 night before moving onto OKW. Are you telling me that I need to buy 2 sets of disney tickets - one for 5 days at OKW and the other for 1 day at POP ???? The dining plan does not apply for us as we are not getting it.

Thanks

No, you will be fine. It only applies to the dining plan.

I'm thinking of staying at the Wilderness Lodge for about 4 nights, and using that as our base for a day or so at the Magic Kingdom, and going to the Animal Kingdom. I also think we'll go to a water park, and have an "off" day to pack and relax.

Then we're thinking of going to either the Swan or the Dolphin, and using it as our base for the rest of our stay, to visit our favorite park, Epcot. (MGM Studios is our second favorite park!) Can we have our luggage transferred there? Or do we have to move it ourselves?

It can be both. I would never even consider it unless I had at least 4 nights at each location.

The downside is on the day you move you basically lose most of the day out of a room, you are still paying for. If you stay put you have the room all day.

As long as things go smoothly and most times they do; it can be ok. But let something go wrong and you will wish you had never moved. We had a child in our group get sick about 1pm and did not get the new room until 4pm and it was miserable.

Also one other time they lost our luggage and we did not get it until very late and we missed our ADR for that night as we did not have a change of clothes.

We have decided it is not worth it anymore for us.

Hmmm, I'm slightly concerned now. I am doing a 3 way split for our upcoming trip. 3 nights at CBR (pre wedding) 4 nights POFQ (post wedding and eve of wedding) and 7 nights AKL before heading on to our cruise. Now like a previous poster said, I intended to take a cab early in the morning with our luggage, check in, then hit the parks.
What is concerning me now is the free DDP. I am from the UK and I have free DDP for 14 nights, I have been advised that as it is a package (flights, hotel, tickets and DDP) my DDP will not be affected, can someone put my mind at ease about this? I realise that when you check out your DDP expires, but surely when I check in again it reinstates? Is there any way I can do something about this in advance so as not to have a huge problem each time I check out? Will I need to check everytime to make sure I have the right amount of credits?:confused3

We stay at least 14 nights so splitting resorts gives me 2 vacations in one which I like, but husband hates, I do all the packing anyway which is a lot with 3 kids. We usually move our luggage ourselves as we always have a hire car. I would not change resorts unless you have not much to pack and more than 4 nights at each.

We spilt our stay last year (which was our first time staying onsite) and it was a big headache. We won't do it again, but good for the people who have had positive experiences with it.

Thanks to the DDP, we will be checking our more resorts this time, which may helps us decide where to stay on our next trip.

Okay, I've been convinced not to split our 6 night stay. :D
Thanks for all this great feedback (and ideas I hadn't thought of)

We've done split stays and it gave us the oppurtunity to enjoy our favorite resort-Polynesian while trying some new ones out too.

We love the Polynesian and like to stay there but I was getting curious if the Epcot resorts & GF would be good for us.
So the last 3 trips we would stay 3 nights at the Yacht, Beach & GF while ending our stay with 5 nights at the Polynesian.
The Polynesian is still our favorite :goodvibes with the Yacht Club coming in second.

I'm not sure because you bought a package with flights & everything but normally the DDP credits expire at midnight on the day you check out of your resort.

It's possible that if you bought your package through a travel agent he paid for a "package" at each different resort, meaning he paid for 1 ticket / person (that you won't use?) in order for you to get the free dining plan.

To me it looks like you'll be starting a new package every time you check into a new resort. You may want to call the persons who booked your vacation and double check with them.

I have thought of doing a split stay but I have decided against it.

I think it would be pretty simple if it were just my wife and I. But with the kids and the extra stuff we bring along, NO WAY! Once we are settled, we are settled!

We resort hop all the time. But only on 10 or more day trips. And only if we are not on the DP.(or if the DP is free  )

Are you buying a 1 day park ticket at each resort? It costs a lot more than getting a multi-day ticket for the entire stay, but that is the only way you could get the dining plan for the entire trip.

I have booked a 21 day ultimate ticket (only available in the UK) as we will be in Orlando for 3 weeks. I queried whether changing resorts would screw up my Dining Plan (as it's free) and she checked with the tour operator and they said no. I know that I have had to pay seperate charges for each resort I am booked at. I only recently split my 7 night stay at CBR to 3 night CBR and 4 night POFQ and I got a refund of $60 because POFQ was slightly cheaper. Would that make any difference? Surely though if I check out after breakfast (9.00am) and check in about the same time, it shouldn't screw up my dining? By the time lunch time comes around would my DDP credits not be sorted?

I'm really confused.
Normally, unless you're a DVC member, in order to get the DDP you'd need to purchase your room, tickets and dining together as a package and the dining would be linked to your room (meaning if you stay 3 nights you get the DDP for 3 nights). If you want to change resorts then you either start a new package (room+ticket+dining) in order to get the plan again, OR you book room-only and then have to drop the plan.

The "old" credits then expire at midnight on the day you check out and the new ones are valid as soon as you check in, but the old ones can't be transfered to your new KTTW.

It must be a special offer for UK residents only, either that or you're booked as a package at each different resort - which makes no sense since you got a refund when you split your stay.

I'm soooooooo lost lol

Join the club, lol:rotfl:

I don't understand at all now, I wasn't concerned about this until now. I have booked loads of TS so I can't afford for my reservations to be screwed up. I guess I'll have to ask my TA to confirm. Could I not mention it every time I book into my new resort? According to my travel documents I have 15 days free DDP and I was told they would just transfer, I am really confused now:sad2:

Double check with your travel agent/tour operator. Just ask for a confirmation on EACH of your resort reservations. What they may have done is quoted you a price including a 1 day ticket. I'm not sure how it works in the UK with your Ultimate Ticket. They MAY be able to associate each reservation with the fact that you have that ultimate ticket but I'm just pulling that out of my butt. :)

Regardless of how it was booked - on your check out/check in days, you'll have overlapping dining credits. (At least normally you would! I've never seen a UK reservation, so I don't know! :) ) Your dining credits are valid until midnight on the day you check out. If you've used up all of your dining entitlements from the FIRST resort stay, you would need to check in at your second resort to get the credits for the second resort portion.

That's what I was thinking too but then how could she have gotten a $60 refund when she split her CBR stay ? Even if she had a water view at CBR and got a standard at POFQ, if 2 one-day tickets had to be added so she could get the plan there's no way it wouldn't cost her more.
