Is Southwest the best? Why?

It seems that over the past few weeks that I have been reading this board that SWA is mentioned ALOT.
It seems like SWA is the preferred airline.
I'm just wondering why that is. Thanks.

Because it's cheap.

I don't think it's necessarily that Southwest is the best, but that's generally where people can get the best fare.

There are trade-offs though. There's no assigned seating, and many don't like the cattle-call style boarding.

But that's all personal opinion.

Personally, I love that Southwest has a nonstop flight out of Buffalo to Orlando, and if the plane does stop, it's usually in Baltimore, and I don't have to de-plane.

I like the fact that you can make changes to your reservation without the normal $50 / person charge that most airlines charge.

In our case, for our return flight home, I booked at the $79 fare. Five days later, that fare dropped to $49. I called SW, and the difference of a total of $120 (for 4 tickets) was credited back to my card.
They did want me to use the credit for future travel, but I was able to have them put it back onto my card without much trouble.

Southwest consistantly has the best rates available. Also they offer non-stop out of Kansas City and this is a big plus for us. Some people complain about the "no reserved seat" policy and so far it has never caused us any trouble. We have always had very good service with them. For the savings it is worth it to give them a try.

For us, SW is the only non-stop way to WDW from Albany, NY. It helps too with the free round trip tickets being a member of their Rapid Rewards program too.

We don't have SW where I live and I am grateful. I flew SW once before and hated it. Never again.

'Course with Delta pulling out of DFW, SW could try to fit right in there.

Southwest generally has the lowest price, and they have the best frequent flier program, especially if you use the SW Rapid Rewards Visa. They also have the most generous re-booking policies and ease of getting credit if the price of your flight goes down.
