Hi, My family and I want to go to Disney in Jan, but when I put in the dates Jan16-23 and try for ASmovies there is no rooms available and I was wondering if there is something going on, for instance a cheerleading meet, and I realize President's day is close to there to. We just don't want to go when it is too crowded. Thank you

Someone correct me if I am wrong but isn't that when the Disney marathon takes place.

I beleive the marathon is only the weekend of the 10th to 12th. Martin Luther King day in not until the 21st, so the weekend prior may be a bit busier.

Where did you try to get a quote from? I noticed that Expedia will not give any availabilites for 2008 yet and when I called them, after a very long wait, they said they did not have access to those dates yet. But, if you check the Disney site you can get the rooms you want with very little exception.

Hope this helps, Suz

I got this quote from Carlson Wagonlit Travel agent here in Halifax. Thank you for the info.

Hi there,

We're also going January 19-26th and tried booking ASmovies but it was full - in fact, all of the AS resorts are full so we grabbed some Pop Century rooms. Our agent recommended we snag those pretty quick which we did. :o)

I'm pretty sure it's the cheerleaders. That's the time of year we usually go and the AS hotels are full of them that week.
Other than filling the rooms they are pretty well behaved. Although it's a bit surreal when you are sitting at the Lion King show and realize you are the only one in the entire room over the age of 16!:hippie:
I did check on the disboard before leaving to find out which park they were going to be at on what day - their itinerarys are set before they leave so their parents were able to tell me when they would be in the parks. The days they are in competition meant the parks were extra quiet!
It's a great time of year to go - cool weather which we don't mind - and no lineups anywhere. Although funny enough we still needed ADRs for any meals!

Not sure about the cheerleaders but I do know that the marathon is taking place Jan 11th (kids 5km), Jan 12th (1/2 marathon) and Jan 13th (full marathon). About 30 thousand people participate in this, that amount does not include their family memebers or fan clubs. Remeber though Disney is the world experts at moving and managing crowds.
What does this means to you .... well transportation in the morning could be an issue I would recommend not booking any early character breakfasts for those days especially at Epcot unless you can walk to it. Staying local to eat would be your best bet especailly in the morning.

If you want more details go to Disneyrunning.com

This is my first post ever so if I messed anything up I'm sorry.

Just wanted to wish 1/2waythere a great BIG :welcome:

I was there the end of January '07, ASMo, and it was cheerleaders. They were competing at MGM. It was CRAZY...they were everywhere you turned and their parents too. I was speaking with one of the mom's and she told me that they all book into the allstar's so that they can stay together and that the groups are very large.

We were ther Feb 6-15 of this year also and they were STILL there! We only saw them at MGM and they were pretty well behaved. A few cheers here and there but nothing obnoxious.

We went home on the 6th or 7th (can't remember). I agree that they were pretty good. They were just everywhere. I remember a few things at MGM being closed because they were using the space.

Those South American tour groups are the rude ones.
