Dh and I will not find out what we are having until Dec. 28, but we are still trying to find the perfect name. What are your opinions on the name Skylar for a girl?

The only skylars I've known were boys??
that's why I voted know I don't like names that can be either
pet peeve

one of our grandsons is named Skylar..I think it's a strange name for boy or girl..but I like the spelling Schuyler better if it's for a girl!..good luck..boy or girl!

I like it. Different, but not too out there. :D

I know somebody with a Skylar McKenzie, and it's a girl! (McKenzie is the middle name)

Sounds kinda wierd to me, doesn't roll of the tongue as easily. I can't picture saying "Skylar, clean your room" or "Here's our new CEO, Skylar X"

I think it's nice but I'd probably just call her Skye. Skylar sounds like a drummer in a rock band. ;)

No. Had a neighbor whos dog was named skylar... can't get past it (irritating little dog too!).

A boy in DD's class is named Skylar. I've always thought of it as a girl name.

I like that name, but I too, would probably call her Skye. :)

My boys are Sage and Cole, so not exactly the norm names. :)

I like Alexandra, Katharine, Elizabeth, and Amy. Anything else usually gets a no vote. You don't need to please me though!

I like the name Katharine. I don't like Elizabeth, but I do like Eliza. DH doesn't like either. But the funny thing is that I told him someone else had a poll going for the name Meadow for a girl...now he has decided that he loves the name Meadow and would like to name a girl Meadow! He either likes names that are very common like Ashley (which I like better on a boy) or something unusual like Skylar. We are still trying to find the middle ground. I like Meadow but not sure I would want to use it. I do like Skylar but still debating that too. That's why I love the DISers. I can get all kinds of points of view.

You absolutely don't have to listen to me but here's my thoughts on the "fad" names. I worked in early childhood for 6 years. And I volunteer a lot at my kids' elementary school. There are always a ton of Wyatt's and Katelyn's for example. There are 3 Hunter's in my son's class, 2 of them are Hunter M. so they have to go through the day being called by their full name. My dd10 is Emily. I hadn't had an Emily in class in 6 years so I thought it would be "safe". This is the first year she's had another Emily in her grade and there are 3 or 4 of them. (New school in a new town)
And finally...:-) I like a name that can grow with the kid. One of my all time favorite kids was a girl named Misty. Cute as could be!!! But can you picture an 80-year old Grandma Misty?

I like it! It seems that anymore, whatever you choose, someone somewhere is going to have a problem with it - or a child of the opposite sex will be in your child's circle....unless you choose Helen or Sue. ;)

I think it's a lovely name, but would have trouble with the Schuyler spelling. I think you'd have people always mispronouncing it as School-er or Shoe-ler. (I research family history & that spelling, pronounced Shoe-ler shows up a number of times.)

As for "fad names" ... we chose Mackenzie, not knowing another ANYwhere. (except Mackenzie Phillips who I'd forgotten about) By the time DD was 3 mos old, there was an article in Baby Talk about twins & one was named Mackenzie. Within 2 years, there were 3 more at our church - which is HUGE! By the time she was 5, we started running into boys with the name as well - all the others had been girls, which is odd since it was listed only in the boys section of the books at the time.

OTOH, I originally wanted to use Hannah Grace - both of which would have been namesakes. DH hated it - said it was too old-fashioned. Do you know how many Hannah Grace's there are now? You never know what's going to become popular.

Then you would love my daughter's name, which is Katherine Elizabeth:)

I like Alexandra as well. Not fond of Skylar, but if it had to be Skylar, I would definitely spell it: Schuyler.

I've heard of Skyler, but it is the name of a boy. He's also a very minor character in South Park (Skyler's band vs. Timmy's band episode).

I usually like unusual names but I don't really like it. I voted no, though I'm not sure why I get vote.

I gave my girl a "boys name". She's a Kendall, though we call her Katie. I figured later on if she wanted to be a "Kenny" I'm okay with that too. Had she been a boy, his name propably would have been Gunnar.

Ive never heard it as a boys name, only as a girls...and I really like it.

That's one of my favorite girl names. But then I like when girls have boy names. And I like unisex names like Morgan.
