Is selling on Ebay worth it?

I have 2 Children's Place winter coats and maybe 15-20 girls clothing items (all brand names: Children's Place, Gymboree, Old Navy). Is it worth my time and effort to list on ebay? Or should I just donate to Good Will and take a tax deduction?

Any opinions?

I probably would not waste my time. I have done it before but only when I have big ticket items. You have to pay ebay fees whether your items sell or not, and then gathering packing materials to ship always ends up costing more than I estimated. How do you feel about craigslist? I love it and use it all the time to unload things when I clean out the closets. :) Oh and a side note, children's place is not known for their quality and you may not get much for the cp clothes. Sorry to be a downer. Good luck!!

CP and Old Navy brands are not worth listing, they do not sell for anything much, if at all. If you have a good bit of Gymboree that is in excellent condition, you might try those pieces.

Excellent condition Gymboree in newer styles will sell, the others I would donate.

It's been awhile since I've done much on e-bay, but some of my Gymboree stuff used to sell for more than I originally paid for it. Be sure to list Gymbo with the name of the line though. Some lines are more in demand than others, and a little research can usually help determine if it's worth listing or not. At least that used to be the case.

Large lots of mixed brands don't usually do very well and I probably wouldn't bother with CP or Old Navy either.

I'm in a somewhat similar spot. I've got a whole rubbermaid tub full of Zoodles stuff that I never got around to listing. It used to go for crazy high prices and be in demand, but I waited too long and they went out of business. I don't think it's even worth messing with at the prices it's bringing now. I'll probably just donate it all.

I've had GREAT success on ebay! Old Navy, of mine, ALWAYS sells. CP is hit-and-miss. My rule is list it once as a buy-it-now, for 30 days. If unsold, then donate. Don't do the auction route - they only allow 7 day listings. It takes less time, and costs less to list, in lots. So if you have like 3-4 long sleeve shirts in one size, list them together. I do have to say I do better when I have multiple things listed rather than 1 or 2 at a time. As far as shipping, generally if I charge $3.95 for a kid's shirt, it cover the shipping (never more than like $3.42) and the envelope I buy. If it's 14-16 oz. charge $4.95 for a priority mail envelope (free @ post office). If it's 1-2 lbs it will usually cost $8.10 priority mail to ship. Over 2 lbs. ship via flat rate for $10.35. I've paid for MANY Disney souvy's with my ebay $$$!

HTH!

I have been selling DD's things and they have been selling like hot cakes. Yes there are fees, but I just sold a pair of pj's for $8 +shipping. I will make a little, not much but I figure since I have the time I am enjoying making a few extra bucks.
I definitely would look in to Craigslist becasue you won't have the fees. I didn't do that route because I could never invite people to my home (or meet them) w/ little ones. Just my personal opinion however lots of people do it and make lots more than I do on ebay!

I work way too much and have little free time. Just cleaned out the attic and brought a few tubs of clothes to good will. Easier for me to just take the tax deduction.

I would donate. I saw on TV that the salvation army coat drive is way behind last year......I'm sure that they can put the coats to good use.

Thanks for all the replies. My first instinct was to donate, and after reading the posts, that is what I will do. I probably will get a bigger tax deduction than I will make selling.

Also check with your school some School corps are doing there own coat drives this year.
