Is Sci-Fi really worth using one TS credit?

Me, DH and DS have dinner ressies for Sci-Fi. But is it really worth it? I read that the food is "okay" and I don't know how fun or interesting it would be to sit in a restaurant and watch old movies.

We also have ressies for Prime Time which seems like it could be a kick for my son who is 9. I'm thinking maybe just go to Sci-Fi for a quick snack and save my TS credit for somewhere else.

Your thoughts?

Worth is a subjective term. What is value in one man's eyes is trash in another's. You need to make this determination for yourself, only you can do so.

:scared: WHAT???? $165 for burgers???

No, he also said that his wife ordered the shrimp pasta and his son ordered the baby back ribs. So it wasn't just for burgers.

Sci Fi is a must do for our family on every trip. We usually go at lunch time though, because I like the steak sandwich that is only on the lunch menu.

There are probably other places where you can get a more expensive meal to use your credits, but for us it is definitely worth the credit because we enjoy the experience and the food so much.

For what I would order:
Onion rings $6.99
Steak sandwich $14.99
Apple Pecan crisp $5.29
Coke $2.19

Total = $29.46
+ tax and tip (estimated b/c I dont know tax rate)
Final = $36.82

So since you pay $38 for the whole day's plan, I think it is worth it.

Anne basically said what I would've said. :flower: Personally, we love Sci-Fi & would think it was worth a credit. However, we always order burgers---and yes, to whoever asked, you can order a burger at dinner. Just ask the server! I have heard comments about the other food on the menu, but since we're burger people anyway, we stick to what we know!

Well I am split on this - my son likes it - he's a burger kind of kid and I think that there are SOOOOOOOOOOO many better places to use a TS credit - many of the rest. in Epcot are far better than Sci-Fi.... I think it is a lot of money for average food. JMO

I wondered the same thing myself when I made ADRs in Nov. However, I chose to try it and see for myself. We really enjoyed our meal there and the theming was great. I am definitely glad we tried it. :)

Wow, I see lots of votes for paying out of pocket.

Onion rings, Burger and Coke(not shake) per person would put my family of four at $100(including tax and tip) if everyone ordered burgers.

I would rather use credits and get dessert and allow everyone to order what ever they choose. That was one reason we got the plan so I would not care about the menu sticker shock, was it a good meal? Yes but if I had paid cash it may have been less enjoyable to me. With the plan I did not look at the prices b4 deciding what to order or WHERE TO EAT. It was my daughters trip, WCC and SCI FI were the two restaraunts she really wanted to try.

My DH, DS(22), DS(12) and I ate at SciFi on our trip this past AUG, and we really enjoyed it.... went for dinner, think the boys had burgers,and onion rings,but my husband and I had Steaks...NY Strip i think...which were really good....but guess the best part was just the atsmophere...just very disney....not with characters...but just the idea...DS(12), remarked how cool it was....like being at a real Drive-in (we still have one in our hometown, and he's been once or twice....just relaxing...not as loud as some of the other resturants that we ate in

Forgot to mention in my above post that we were on the Dining plan....so we also had appetizers and desserts, The apple dessert with ice cream was very very good... think our meal here was about 120.00-130.00 dollar range...so we definately saved money using the dining plan.

Looks like I'll keep my ADR for now till we get closer to our July trip. I'm thinking of just saving my TS credits and going there for an OOP snack. I could use the TS credit for Cali Grill or HDD dinner show!

Thanks all!

We ate there a week ago. The atmosphere is neat and the kids liked eating in the cars but the food was only so-so. Our server spoke poor english and had the personality of a shoe. I was expecting more interaction from the server and thought maybe the servers would play more of a car hop role but that was certainly not our experience. The stuff they show on the big screen is sort of entertaining and it's a good place to relax but don't expect much as far as human interaction. Even the people at the front counter and the hostess that seated us were very business-like and not overly friendly. Unlike the staff at CRT in the Magic Kingdom who were all very wonderful!

My neice and I ate there on Jan.7th and thought the food was really good. She had the salmon and I had a shrimp pasta dish, that was excellent. The servers were really into the theming and were funny to watch.

I am on the dining plan in August and know my kids will love this place and hate places like le celler, the food may be better at other resturaunts, but as previously said by others value is subjective, value to me is having a good time with my family and if so it is worth it. If your idea of value is getting the the most costly item on the menu for everyone so you get the the most out of the dining plan then it would not be worth it

I agree with the last poster. Your choice of TS restaurants shouldn't be chosen based on how to get the most for your money. This is a fun place, but really listen to the posts on how bad some of the food is. Stick to burgers, onion rings and milk shakes and you will be fine.

I can't wait i finally get to eat there this trip coming next week. Thanks for all your information.

I don't select my ADR's based on the most expensive place we can go. I agree that value is having a good time and that's why we WILL go to Sci-Fi for a shake during a break. The menu is just not as appealing to me as others I've researched (50's seems like a lot move fun with their interactive servers). Plus as stated earlier, I already have ADR's at HDDR which is 2 TS credits and I could use it for that. Now HDDR sounds like the type of fun we'd enjoy and we love BBQ! :wizard:

Maybe we are in the minority, but my family didn't care for the food at all and the service was even worse. The atmosphere and the milkshakes are great, but I would pass on using a TS here and save it for somewhere else.

I agree...we were there in December '05 and waited a looooong time for our food...no fun with a hungry 8 year old in tow. :worried: When the food finally arrived, it was just so-so...IMHO, no amount of atmosphere is worth a long wait for so-so food.

We thought that the Sci-Fi was a cool place-the servers were on roller skates, the theme is unique... but $10 for a hot dog kid's meal? We are not cheap by any means, but for that price, we expected something a little better than what we got.
