Is SCI-FI Diner Really That Bad?

We loved Sci-Fi, when we ate there. Unfortunately, we all had burgers, so I can't help with other entrees. It was the best burger I've had on Disney property. I was really shocked by how good everything was, since it got such bad reviews here. We will definitely return to Sci-Fi, & I can't say that about all WDW restaurants. It would be nice if all the restaurants were that quiet.

I guess it depends on what kind of food you are hoping for. Obviously a place where you eat in cars and watch tacky movies is not a gourmet restaurant. However, we have eaten there on every trip, and will be eating there again this time. We have had the burgers, sandwiches, ribs and loved them all, and the milkshakes mmmmmmm. This place is my kids favourite, and DH and I are pretty happy to oblige them!

I don't get why everyone slams Sci Fi. I love it, and I always enjoy it when I get to go there. It is just an amazing place to me.

I love Sci-Fi!! I don't understand why is gets such a bad reputation! The food is good. I enjoyed it both times I ate there. I think people just like to find something negative to say. You are in Disney World!! Compared to every other theme park out there, Disney has the best food with the most options. I love Sci-Fi, the themeing is something you are sure to remember. Don't listen to the haters!

I agree with these statements. For me, its mostly about the theme of the place. But I have been to Sci Fi a handful of times and I have to say, i've NEVER had a bad meal there. Always yummy food. With the new menu, they took away the ribs and added more options for vegetarians...including, sweet potato fries!! Thats exciting. :goodvibes Anyway, my past meals there included ribs and burgers. Both were tasty! Fries are good. Shakes are great. Desserts are yummy too. It kills me when ppl go to SciFi then complain its nothing but burgers, not sure why theyre expecting gourmet food, it is a drive-in theater style afterall! Lol!

I'm a very tough critic, and I love the Sci Fi Diner... but not necessarily for the reasons that are important to you.
It's not a bad place to go for burgers, ribs, and milk shakes. Stick to those types of basics, and the food is good. Not great, not mouth watering delicious. But perfectly acceptable.

And with young kids, I LOVE the atmosphere. It was the quietest lunch I've had with my kids, as they are absorbed by the movie screen. Plus, if it's a hot day, it's a nice dark, cool room to relax in. It was probably the quietest restaurant I've experienced at Disney, as nobody is really talking.
So for decent food, in a nice quiet cool dark room, can't be beat.

I agree with all of these statements...... also, with the movies playing in the front, people tend to chill out and stay quiet. It is the place I like to relax in, cool off and enjoy the dark atmosphere.

It is our one do-not-miss location.

I get the Rueben sandwich every time we go there. We always go for lunch.

Also, we always pay cash, even when on dining plan, meals are reasonable priced..... so we save the dining credit for elsewhere.

We were there last month, loved the food and atmosphere! Got the beef and blue salad (subbed ranch for the blue!!) and it was excellent! Service was good too!

Of the two times that we have been, last time we had poor service yet the best food of the two -go figure! DD and I split a burger and it was excellent. I love the theming and will return sometime soon - just not our next trip since we are taking a Sci-Fi break.

I think this restaurant gets more bad reviews by people on the dining plan. It a not such great use of a dining credit, but an excellent value for oop. It's just such a cool place, the sandwiches are very good, and only a few dollars more than cs.

I have to disagree. People paying OOP tend to look at pricing more than someone on a plan. We are always OOP and expect to get at least decent quality for our money. A burger is a burger. Yes, the burgers at Sci-Fi is considerably better than at McDonalds, but it's still not worth what they charge, "ambience" or not. I like good food and don't mind paying for it, but a burger at Disney should be at least as good as one I can get around home at half the price. Lately, they are not. And, I do get it that prices at Disney are going to be higher, all else being equal.
