I remember eating here about 10 years ago and I was thinking of trying it again, but I don't really remember how the quality was, is this a pretty good place to eat? Any review would be great...
Thank you

Hi there! Well, I am a huge fan of this restaurant in Mexico. I cannot visit without having at least one reservation there. I love the atmosphere at this restaurant. I adore their salsa and chips, their Sopa Azteca, and their vegetarian menu.

The prices also on the vegetarian menu are 1/2 price of what the regular menu charges and the dishes are the same as on the regular menu minus the meat. I eat meat but order vegetarian to save on costs there.

Try it....it's just as great as your memory remembers!

I also really love San Angel Inn, have been there several times over the past few years with never anything but a wonderful meal and service. I love the food and atmosphere and if we don't go, we always regret it!

All that said...

You are probably going to get a lot of very negative reviews from people who say this place serves up yucky, non authentic Mexican food, that the service is awful, the tables too cramped and to skip it. I swear, this place gets more heated hate on the dis than any other WDW eatery. And I respect that because I know experiences vary. But I always say go for it. Its not Tex Mex which is what the vast majority of Americans consider "true" Mexican food. Its dark in there but I like that, some do not. In the end you won't know until you try it, and while a lot of people don't like it, a lot of people like myself do, and they base that opinion on multiple visits. We all have different tastes! I also like to eat here at an off time to increase my chances of a lesser wait to get my table and get a table nearer the water. Because its hooked up to a ride, its visible and it gets a lot of walk ups so its frequently quite crowded.

I love their filet, their tortilla soup, margaritas and the atmosphere. Ask for a waterside table and tell them you will wait for one. It makes it even more enjoyable!

I have had both really good & a really bad experience here. We always eat here one time per trip though just because we really enjoy the atmosphere. My only complaint is visiting during busy meal times because the customer service really drops. We were there for dinner last September & had to wait for over an hour for our meal.

I loved it when we ate there last April. They were just finishing up the refurbs on the El Rio del Tiempo ride, which is now the Gran Fiesta Tour. We sat right by the water, and the atmosphere was just beautiful. My dad is already begging to go back there when we go in December. He loved it.

We ate here for the first time in October and didn't really care for it. The service was fine and the decor was good. We just didn't care for our food and have had better meals else where in the world showcase.

eh...i never cared for it. it is true. the tables are SO clsoe togther, its very dark, our server twice was very poor, and the food was just not impressive to me. wasnt TERRIBLE, but Disney has way better food to offer IMO

Nope, don't like it. We love authentic Mexican food and it's not. I don't know about Tex Mex because where I live, we have the real deal. The restaurant is very pretty though.

Okay, I am not arguing with you because the Mexican food in California is the real deal and its nothing like San Angel and its not Tex Mex either. But I do have to say, Mexico is a big place with lots of regions and varieties of cuisine. Just as real American food can be fried okra or clam chowder. I think in the end there are just lots of "real" types of Mexican food, I have heard others who say San Angel is very authentic. Except for the Tostitos of course!

We ate there in Oct on our honeymoon and we loved it. It's one we definately will be visiting each trip.

That's exactly what I was going t say. Well, almost. I understand that the food is more "authentic Mexican" than most Americans are familiar with. Its not suppose to be Tex-Mex or anything like that. However, we've found that the food is yucky, service is awful and the tables are too cramped.

It is kind of fun to watch the boats float by. But that gets old after the first 15 minutes.

I don't think it is as good as it used to be. I used to love it and now it's just kind if so-so. Maybe I'm just tired of the menu. I wish they'd change it like Italy did. I was tired of Italy's restaurant and I just love the new one!

I definitely think this restaurant has gone down hill. The atmosphere is cool and I do like the darkness, but I would rather eat the food outside the pavilion and move on then wait and wait and wait and wait until you get mediocre or less food at the restaurant inside. Just my experience comparing 8 years ago and 5 years ago to what we have had the past three years.

I used to love San Angel - the atmosphere was very soothing and lovely (though the lighting is pretty dark and hard to read menus sometimes) and the food was delicious - more authentic mexican than the usual tex-mex we get in most places. However, this was back in the 90's.
The last time I went (can't remember what year) it was very disappointing. The atmosphere was still nice, but the food, I thought, was bad. It was less the authentic mexican and more the usual tex-mex (which I like), but it wasn't a good Tex-Mex. It was sad in that I really liked this restaurant. I haven't been back since.

That happens alot with Dinsey restaurants - you either had a great experience or a so-so experience years ago and then all of a sudden - it changes. And what was a favorite restaurant is no longer and a so-so restaurant becomes a favorite! Chances are if I decide to try San Angel again in a few years, I'll love it!

I would check the menu on allearsnet.com and if it looks appealing - give it a try - but bring a flashlight because unless they changed the lighting you'll have a tough time seeing the menu. Enjoy!

I love San Angel Inn and go every trip. The atmosphere is beyond amazing, but I'm fond of the food too. I'm not a very big eater so I tend to get the Sope Tradicional appetizer. It's honestly one of my favorite meals at WDW and I think it's because I've never seen a "Sope" on menus at Mexican restaurants around here. It's yummy and it seems to be a San Angel Inn exclusive. Although I'm nto sure, maybe other Mexican restaurants in the states offer it. :confused3
Anyway, I don't think a trip to WDW would be complete without dinner here. The atmosphere is just so Disney and it doesn't seem like you could eat in a restaurant like that at home. I love being able to hear the Mariachi band while eating and watching the boat ride.

This was, for a long time, my favorite Disney TS.

I still love the atmosphere - it is, IMHO, the best at Epcot and one of the best at Disney.

I also agree that many time the place gets bad reviews from people expecting more of a tex-mex thing. That said, my last two visits were very disappointing and I don't have a planned return.

The food was exceptionally bland the last two times there and it seems like they have taken to using Tostitos chips (maybe they laways did and I never noticed, but there certainly didn't taste fresh). The service was also very indifferent.

I am hoping I just couaght the chef on a bad couple days because I like going there and sitting by the river, sipping a margarita listening to the band play.

Bagged chips , jar salsa, cold hot entrees and not a drink refill to be found. It is by far the biggest disappointment at WDW.

Thanks for the reviews. My family will be eating there on 5/6, I was scared after reading the menu.

I live in Austin and so eat excellent Mexican food often - of all varieties from interior to Tex Mex. San Angelo is the worst. Change your reservation!
