Is ROR worth $170?

Basically, right now I have one HS day planned with 6-day base tickets. I have FP for MMRR, ST and RNR. Current plan is to rope drop to try for a ROR boarding group and then also rush to SSD.

I'm considering adding Park Hopper to give myself extra "chances" for a boarding group by rope dropping HS on my planned Epcot days, that hopping over to Epcot for what I already have planned. The friend I'm going with doesn't care about Star Wars, so if I did this, I'd cover the cost of both of our Park Hoppers myself. So it really boils down to.... is ROR worth $170?

TIA!

I would do HS on day one of your trip. Ride ROTR, then decide for yourself if it’s worth it. You can always add the park hopper on at that point, if you decide you want to go again on another day.

Days and fastpasses are already locked in place... Both Epcot days are before HS. In retrospect I would have done it differently but I have good FPs and don't want to blow up my whole plan now... I just have to decide if extra chances at boarding groups are worth the $$$:)

When are you going and is your DHS day early in your trip or late? If your only park hopping would be for the added chance at ROTR, I probably wouldn't spend the money up front. Hopefully your DHS day is early in your trip. If you try for the boarding group and don't get to ride, or if you do get to ride and absolutely want to ride again, you can always add PH during the trip.

If you wait until you get there, you can add the park hopper to just your ticket. You then get up early on one of your EP days, go to HS, then meet your friend at EP. You would also have to leave your friend to go back and ride once your boarding group is called. Of course this scenario assumes your friend isn't going to ride.

I have rode three times. $170? No way. But I am a casual Star Wars watcher and I love thrill rides.
Its a technological marvel, but I was bored on my 3rd ride. It is not fast, or thrilling in any way except emotionally if you are a Star Wars fan.
I prefer Tower of Terror still.

Wait, does that mean it would only be $85 to add it just for your ticket? If that's the case, I'd do what someone else suggested and just add it yourself when you get there. That way you can try each day and still hang out with your friend for the most part. Then, after your friend gets to ride on day 3, if he or she decides it's worth it, they can add the hopper to their ticket for the final 3 days. I always buy hoppers from the get-go, so they are always worth it to me. Plus, I'm a huge Star Wars fan and we're planning to try for Rise on at least 4 days out of our week-long trip coming up in April.

Seriously though, how hard can it be to move your first Epcot day? Epcot fastpasses are not that difficult, especially for 2 people.

Just to clarify, if the friend adds PH for the final 3 days it will still be the same price as adding it for all 6 days.

If you really want to ride it I would probably get the park hopper for yourself. You should also try to go to HS early in your trip. There is a good chance you end up with a high boarding group that is never called or the ride goes down at some point. If you are at HS only one morning that lessens your chances.

We went to hs 3 times in the morning. Rode 1st try bg 45, 2nd try no ride bg 93 (ride was down multiple hours of the day and ended up only going through 60 something bg), 3rd try bg13. ride went down while in line. given fastpass to come back later that day. luckily they got it back up and we were able to ride. we were originally planning on trying bg twice on our trip but ended up trying a 3rd time after try number two was unsuccessful. we left hs at some point all three days. on the day we had bg93 we left the park immediately after 1 rope drop ride.

bg 13 was our lowest. that morning i closed all apps on my phone. i timed the amount of seconds it took me to open the disney app and click on "find out more" (probably ten times). it took me around 7 seconds to get to the page that had join boarding group. i checked my watch second hand with time.gov. 5 seconds before 8am i opened the app and by the time i got to the join boarding group page the button was lit up. i also removed all friends and family from my list that was not with us so i could select all instead of picking out individual people.

Is friend who doesn't care about Star Wars really going to want to get up and deal with the early crowds at HS multiple times on your trip? (Are you??)

We're in the same boat with just one HS day and no hoppers, currently. I've definitely had moments of weakness where I considered upgrading all of our tickets for more chances, but ultimately decided that that doesn't seem like much of a vacation to me (not to mention the cost). We'll just hope for the best on our one day, and go back someday to ride it if it doesn't work out.

As has been said, you don't have to decide in advance. You can always see how it goes the first day and add PH later if it doesn't work out.

Any chance of doing a 7th day for even a few hours? It is dirt cheap to add Day 7.

Not quite as cheap since the price change yesterday. I'm hearing it went from around $12 to more like $28. Still cheaper than $85 or whatever to add hopper, but when you add another night stay at a hotel, it does add up quickly. Oh, that brings up another point though, I wonder if the park hopper price the OP quoted was before or after the ticket price increase?

Thank you all. You've given me a lot to consider!!! I think the point that it's really a "lottery ticket" and not a guarantee is probably going to make me lean towards leaving everything as it is. As pointed out, I can add PH when I'm there if I change my mind. Thank you all for your thoughts!!

I'd wait and see how your HS day goes.

If you get a BG and ride RotR, you can decide if it's worth PH cost and early mornings to try and do it again (probably not). I guess it's the same decision if you don't get a BG, is it worth $xx and xx early mornings to try again. You'll also have a better sense by then on what your friend is willing to do, which might change the equation slightly.

if you practice with boarding groups, have more than one person trying, and are ready at opening more times than not you will get a BG low enough to ride (seems wednesday and friday are the days to avoid right now though). I agree with everyone else. Go to your HS day and be ready to go. If it works out like it should you'll get to ride. If not you can add hopper then to try again the next day.
