Is rope dropping 7DMT worth it?

My family will be visiting MK next week, and I'm really torn on whether or not it's worth trying to rope drop 7DMT. We are staying offsite, and although we got plenty of FP+, the mine train ones were long gone! We were planning on being at MK for rope drop, but after reading all the recent TR about how crazy those getting to 7DMT are, I just don't know if its worth it. The tots in our group will be too short to ride, and although my husband and I are certifiable Disney nerds, I don't want to be a foul mood all day from rude rope droppers.

Should we hustle it with the rest of the crowd, or should we just forgo it and enjoy the rest of Fantasyland? Oh, one other important thing-- we're going to be traveling with a newbie family (who also had a toddler)-- I'd hate for their first experience of MK to be a terrible one.

Advice please!!! Thank you!

We were fortunate to get FPPs last week for it and rode several times. It is a great ride, but short. We had a seven year old with us and all enjoyed it very much.

If it helps, we would have ridden more, but were not even willing to wait 25 minutes for it when other things were a walk-on during MVMCP. So my thoughts are that while a very fun ride, it is not worth ruining your day.

I also think people overstate craziness. If you don't want to risk craziness, just go as early or as late as you can and wait or skip all together.

My friend just texted me this morning. They went to the MK at rope drop and headed straight to 7DMT, got on in 20 mins.

My impression is that you actually do want a bit of a wait at the Mine Train, so that you don't just breeze by everything in the queue - which is said to be pretty good.

So if you head calmly but briskly to the attraction, you should be able avoid the madness, keep your calm, and have a wait that's not too long, but not too short, either.

Having said that - I'm also told the ride is most interesting around dusk, when the lighting changes, more-so than in the morning.

Our tentative plan is standby at rope-drop to experience the queue, then FP at dusk.

I have not done 7DMT at RD, so I can't speak to how fast or slow it might go. I rode it two times on a vacation in September though. While I found it good, I personally don't like to wait over 20 mins for any ride, and I find with a good touring plan I usually don't. I don't think, for me, a longer wait at 7DMT is worth using precious morning time where I find I can get so much done. I think it depends on how long you are willing to wait if RD is not a success for you. When I went in September, I had a FP, so I didn't have to consider whether I wanted to use early morning time to go on the ride and potentially wait. I think much of this depends on how much you'd like to go on the ride. HTH!

We found the evenings to be a much more efficient use of time than early mornings for 7D.

During summer hours, we could often ride twice during the last half hour of operation. One night, the posted wait time was 80 minutes with an actual wait of 20 mins the first time and 10 for the 2nd trip.

My understanding is that it is worth doing at rope drop if you get there really early and can stay near the front of the crowd. Otherwise, you're better off riding doing the rest of the FL attractions at rope drop and trying to ride it later. We rode it 3 times on our last trip. Once at rope drop and twice with FP+. It was a cute ride, but it's short and I wouldn't wait more than 20-25 minutes for it.
