I saw from my latest visit to WDW River Country is closed and even it's name is removed from every purple road sign. Is River Country Dead and gone?

WDW has announced that Officially River Country is closed, and there are no plans for it. We that love FW are hoping that the pool might eventually be the FW pool, but that is just hopes on our part.

I heard they were having problems keeping it up to standards - as far as cleanliness. Is this true???

And I for one was very sad to see River Country go. I really enjoyed this park. It was a nice way to spend a relaxing afternoon by the water. There wasn't a whole lot in the way of slides, but it was entertaining and never overcrowded!!!

I guess, however, if they were having trouble keeping it clean, then it's best they shut it down. But I am still going to miss it!! :guilty:

Disney has always had trouble with the algae levels in Bay Lake (the waterway that goes around the Magic Kingdom resorts). You used to be able to go into the water and swim, but that hasn't been the case for several years because of pH issues. Since the water for Fort Wilderness was Bay Lake water, I think part of the reason that had to close it was for health reasons. Plus, with the onset of bigger and better thrills at Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach, attendence had dropped significantly (because of which, I'm sure park upkeep suffered, leading to cleanliness issues, etc.)
