Is resort hopping a good idea?

We currently have ressies at the GF for December 2005, and I was thinking about adding a few days at BWI and AKL too. I think it would be neat to stay in different areas and just go to the parks that are near our resort on any given day. Has anyone tried this?

It'll be DH, 2 DSs who will be 4 and 2 at the time of the trip, and me. Will it be a major PITA to pack up and move every few days? I'm worried it might be more trouble than it's worth. Maybe we should just do 2 resorts this time and save BWI for another trip?
I'd like to do 2 days at BWI, 3 at GF, and 2 at AKL. Is this a good idea or should i nix it now?

IMO, with a 4 and 2 year old also, that would be too much moving for me. And I'm a light packer!! Stay at a different resort everytime you go, it just gives you a reason to go back.

The prudent side of me says you're right. It could end up being stressful when it's supposed to be fun and relaxing...

Where in the Pitt area are you? I'm about an hour and a half from Pitt.

we usually move once, but we go to Orlando for 2 weeks. We spend the 1st week to 10 days offsite and then move on to finish on a high note - we generally lose half a day when we move. Since we are in Orlando for 2 weeks we can afford to lose 1/2 day, but I wouldn't want to move twice in a week

We also take 2 weeks vacation in October. 1st week always in Daytona for biketoberfest (for DH) and 2nd week usually in Orlando. Just that move is enough for me, but we own a timeshare and I wash our clothes, so I don't actually pack 2 weeks worth of clothes.

We own in Daytona, at Royal Floridian. We use bonus time through RCI for our 2nd week in orlando, usually very inexpensive. Actually we use bonus time alot, went to Cape Canaveral in April, Ron Jon resort, it was very nice. We usually vacation 4 weeks a year, 2 0r 3 of them arethrough RCI bonus.

I don't think moving once wouldn't be bad, but I think twice is a bit too much. We usually end up moving once because we own DVC and don't like to waste points on arrival night and/or on expensive weekends.

It will take about a half day to do the move probably by the time you check out/in and move all your stuff. Or at least most of a morning.

What we do is spend 2 nights in a resort, then move over to our villa. So, for your situation, you could stay 2 nights in AKL or GF and then the rest of the time at the other resort. The reason why I say to do it this way instead of 50/50 for each resort is for packing.

We generally pack what we need for everybody for two days in a carryon suitcase, then we don't even have to touch the rest of the stuff until we get to the villa. (plus if the airline loses our luggage at least we have our carry on!) That way packing on moving day is easy and quick and then when we get to where we are REALLY staying, we can unpack everything.

I'm with you though, I think it is fun to stay in different resorts because the atmosphere is so different. And your kids will love AKL. We have a 2 year old and moving with her was no problem.

I highly recommend posting this question on the Resorts Board. I think I read over there that if you are moving between WDW resorts that all you do is pack and they will move everything. It is at your next resort waiting on you at the end of the day. I can't remember if they said in your room or not, but it is at your resort. We transfered from the Disney Institute to All Star Sports once and I really think the CM offered to do this for us. We did not because we actually arrived earlier than we planned and I had to check in at ASSp to get our park tickets.

Anyway, the folks on the resort board would know for sure!

This is true, they will move your stuff from resort to resort. They will move it from your old room to your new resort. I think they bring your luggage to the desk area (or wherever they store stuff) of the new resort until you check in. The value resorts don't have bell service, so the only difference here would be you would have to take your luggage from your old room and bring it down to the desk. This is what we will be doing in September when we move from ASM to BWV. My dh is going to go check us in at BWV while the rest of us go on to AKL. We expect to meet up with him around 10 or so....so it is going to take up some of our morning, but shouldn't be too bad.

You could have them bring your luggage for you to whichever resort your switching to and then just check in that evening when you get back from the parks. But we, being the paranoid type, like to check in early in hopes of getting a better choice of rooms.
