Is Poly or BC "too big" of a room for 1 person?

This might sound weird. We are going to WDW in Oct and can't decide on a resort. We are a family of 4. Two adults and two children ages 7 & 9. My MIL will be joining us for a few days(5 of our 10 nights) I would really like to stay at the Poly or maybe the BC but have my mother in law stay in her own room. She would rather stay in the same room and my husband would let her. I want two rooms. I am doing all of the booking, planning etc... So I could just get her a room for herself. The question is .... are the rooms so big that she will be questioning me "why didn't you just get one room for us to ALL stay in?"
Help.
Our other possibility is to stay at the WL in two rooms. We have stayed there before and know only 4 to a room. This would probably be the easiest thing to do. This way there would be no hard feelings.we love the WL and would stay here again in a heartbeat. Was just thinking about trying something different.

perhaps connecting rooms and let the kids stay w/mil?
Ditto. This way she won't feel the room is big and lonely.

With the BC rooms, I don't think she'll be saying that, especially after a few days, hehe. But she might think the Poly rooms are too big for one person, and that she should have stayed with you in that case. I stayed in a Poly room (both the larger and the smaller, some are like 50 sq. ft. larger), and both felt way too big for one person, really. (Not that I wouldn't stay there alone again, hehe) Especially in the larger one, it felt cavernous, like I was wasting space that some other family needed, hehe. Yeah my opinion, I think WL might be a good choice, that way it takes away the argument of staying in the same room.

The Polynesian rooms are very spacious, but I would happily stay in one alone and enjoy and appreciate every minute of it! Even though my MIL is wonderful, I would personally have a difficult time going on vacation and sharing a room with her. I need that private time & space. Because I love the Polynesian, I'd recommend staying there and getting 2 rooms. If your kids are anything like mine, they'd find it very special spending a night or 2 in grandma's room with her. If interested in a split stay, maybe you could stay there for 5 days and then move to the WL and get 2 rooms when your MIL arrives. Have fun deciding and when you go! :)

When my mother was alive, she always shared our room at the Poly, BC, YC, GF and used the day bed. DH was happy to have her with us. My MIL on the other hand? I would get her a room on the other side of WDW. ;)

I'm loving the kids and grandmother in a room a few doors down :teeth: Seriously, it would probably be a big treat for them. :earsboy:

I feel the same way. I love my MIL, but sharing a room is a bit much. If I was going with my son and his family I would want my own space then as well, but all families are different.

Three adults AND two kids in a standard room? Unless you plan to sped all day at the parks definetly get two rooms. Your kids will have to share the day bed, or have sleeping bags. Plus the one tiny bathroom for five people.

Send the kids to grandma's! My sister and I LOVE having a sleepover at grandma's and when we go away with her it's even better. Besides, then you get time with your husband alone and the room wont seem too big for the two of you :rolleyes1

enjoy! :Pinkbounc

LOVE (!!) the idea of kids and grandma in one room, you and DH in a connecting/next door room at the Poly. Wish that was offered to us when we last went.

But if either the kids or DH are against that idea, I'd book 2 rooms at WL. Poly. rooms are very big and you could fit 5 in one room.

Our family of 4 (me, husband, kids 7 and 9) get two connecting rooms when we stay at regular rooms at BC, AKL, GF and Poly. We stay in 1 room and we put the kids in the other room. I could not imagine putting 3 adults and 2 kids in any regular room even at a deluxe.

A question to all those who said Poly rooms are quite spacious: Do you feel like it makes a difference which building you're in as to how spacious they are (I think there are 2 different sizes, depending on the room.)
I would also vote for 2 rooms if possible, but I like that idea of splitting your stay, get the one room while at poly with just your family, and the 2 rms at WL with MIL. Of course that's assuming she's coming the beginning or end, not in the middle.
