Is Poly as spread out/big as CSR?

We're trying to decide where to stay this summer and I was wondering if anyone can tell me how the distance from the Ceremonial House at the Poly to the farthest buildings (Tahiti & Rapa Nui) would compare to a walk from El Centro at the CSR to the other side of the lake (ie. the pool)?

We stayed at the CSR in October and although we loved the resort, we found our building (8A) quite a hike from the main building when we were picking up parcels from the gift shop, etc. (but great for the pool :)). Assuming we could be in one of the farthest buildings at the Poly, would the walk be as long as the one we had at the CSR? Don't get me wrong, we do expect to walk at WDW ;) but we'd prefer a more "compact" resort layout for future trips (loved the Y/BC & GF layouts but want to try a different resort...Poly is my DD's favourite so we're considering it first...second choice is AKL). It's hard to tell from looking at the maps and I just didn't pay enough attention to the layout when we visited the Poly last trip. TIA

Having stayed at both, I'd say the Polynesian is much easier to navigate! CSR is a big spread out resort, we also stayed in building 8A.

At the Poly we had a garden view room in Rarotonga, which is right next to the Great Ceremonial House, which in my opinion is a great location.

I can't give you exact walking times or distances, but at the Poly nothing is too far from anything else at the resort.

Have never stayed at CSR, but I have stayed at CBS.

Our room was also in Rarotonga GV over looking the quite pool and the Hawaii building. This resort is awesome for getting around.

As Blondie said this building is great. It right in the middle of the resort, beside The GCH. Quite pool is in front of you and main pool and marina to slightly to your left, in front of the GCH.

Everything is so convenient at this resort. I'm an early riser, my DH and Grandchildren love sleeping. I would get up early, get my coffee and walk the resort. Sometimes to the beach and watch the castle change colors, yes it was still dark, sometimes the marina, sometimes the pool. Sometimes doing the laundry before everyone woke up.

Nothing at this resort was a hike.

Poly is more compact. Even if you're far away from the Ceremonial House but on the right side of the property (facing MK), you can easily walk to TTC and catch the monorail there. If you're on the left side (facing MK), you're close to the MK boat.

Have a great trip!

We have stayed at the Tokelau building and loved that location. The whole place is very easy to walk. The arcade and laundry room are close by and the GCH is never a long walk. The grounds are so beautiful and the staff is so nice. We had a garden view room but lucked up and were at the end of the building on the second floor and had a perfect view of the lagoon. I would stay there again in a heartbeat.

Thanks for the replies everyone...I'm happy to hear it's not as spread out as CSR (I didn't think it was but wasn't sure so why ponder it...I knew someone could answer the question for me here on the DIS). Now to make the decision...Polynesian or AKL...maybe both. ;) Can't wait for the summer rates/codes to come out. :)

I've stayed at both CSR and the Polynesian: there's simply no comparison. The CSR is spread out across many acres, and it is a hike from one of the farther complexes to the main building (it almost needs its own bus system, like the Carribbean Beach).

At the Polynesian, on the other hand, the fartherst buildings - Rapa Nui and Tahiti - are still at most only 5 minutes from the Great Ceremonial House. And since the longhouses are all so close together, the distances seem less severe.

Furthermore, if you stay at Rapa Nui and Tahiti you're a couple of minutes' walk from the Transportation/Ticket Center, at which you can take a monorail to Epcot - a closer walk than to the GCH.

One day we were on our way to El Centro and a tram driver stopped and asked us if we'd like a ride...wow was that great. I think they should provide that service all the time. It would be a great addition to the resort. Sometimes you don't mind the stroll (it's so beautiful) but some times it's just so far.

Lisa,

It takes me 6 minutes to walk from Tahiti to GCH, walking at a pretty good clip.
