Is picking up our documents at the port a bad idea?

We'll be in the process of a cross-country move when we go on our cruise later this year. I'm concerned about our documents getting lost in the mail since we'll be out of our house and on the road by the time the documents are due to arrive. I talked briefly to a DCL reservationist about this and she suggested I pick up our documents at the port when we arrive. I've been lurking here on this board for a while and it seems like everyone receives their docs through the mail--are there big disadvantages to picking them up at the port?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

I wouldn't worry about it. But I would re-confirm everything over the phone with DCL a few days prior to heading down to Port Canaveral ;)

Only thing I can think of off hand is they have the wrong spellings in reference to names on your birth certificates and/or passports. I sure would prefer having them in advance to check them over. You can also fill all the info in before you get there.
Then again a number of people stand in line and THEN decide to fill them in making others wait while they do something that should have been done in advance.
Good luck :)

Cheers,
Grumbo

Yeah, you won't be able to fill out the pre-requisite paperwork before you arrive, but other than that you should be fine. Good luck!!

Nope, picking up the documents at the Port is great.

We just did that this past March, as we booked a last minute cruise 2 days before it sailed.

When you get there, you go up the escalator, there is a round desk straight ahead..give them your name. They have everything ready for you, high lited what needs to be filled out. You quick fill them out and you are off to check in. Easy as pie.

No disadvantages at all. Just make sure you have all the pertinent info with you..if you drive and park at port, you need license plate number of vehicle, that type thing.

:)
Thanks for the information--sounds like picking our documents up at the port will work out just fine for us!
Webray, how fun to book a cruise two days before sailing! That must have been quite a thrill.

Thanks again,
Janet

Yep, it was a thrill..lol, and a huge suprise for our daughter (Air Force) coming home on leave. She can't wait to go on her next cruise.
