Hubby and I would like to enter Canada in July for a week of camping. Does anybody know if we will need a passport for this? We cannot justify the extra cost of getting them just for 1 week there. We don't plan to ever go out of the country, except maybe to Canada again. No Eurpoean travel for us, not even a trip to the Carribean.
Any information on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

No- Not yet. I think Jan. 2007 is when a passport will be needed if crossing the border by car.

Are you of American birth? Then passport not needed, bring your birth certificates.

Sister-in-law who lives in Conneticuit is demanded for her passport all the time as she is Japanese decent.

Where are you heading too?

Yes, both of us are of American birth. We want to go to Blythe, have never been there, just know that our camping group has a huge "Campvention" planned for the second week of July.
We both have birth certificates, so we are hoping to avoid the expense of a passport.

You won't need it till Jan 07 to come to Canada just as we don't need one to get into the US by car till 07.

Blythe? What province is that in?

We are about 20 minutes Southeast of there. Locally we spell it Blyth, but historically it was Blythe. Wondered about it being the same place, since beyond the Festival Theatre and the Old Mill, there isn't much there. Can't even remember a campground

I thought that Americans were required to also have a passport to return to the US? It is the American gov't that came up with this requirement and our city officials (we are a border city) pleaded with whomever to reconsider due to the fact that it will cost our city alot of lost revenue from Americans. Many of them will not purchase a passport just to come to Canada to shop.
