Is Park West at Sea (onboard the Magic) defrauding Magic passengers?

OH...our original Harrison Ellenshaw arrived from our last cruise! Still waiting on some of the others...but so excited with this one!!! My DH won't give it to me yet. Anniversary is next week though!

Just my 2 cents here as someone who did buy and found out their art was not authentic.I requested an immediate refund and was denied but will pursue legal cahnnels as many others are as well.
There is a reason why only one site is posting case studies and doing reserach to advocate for victims.The reason is that Park West pays other sites NOT to post reports ie "ripoffreport." no new reports posted by them in YEARS yet there are hundreds suring park west in class action suits. ( goggle Park West class action suit) Park west pays to be a member of these sites to stop blogging , posting and reports from being accessible to the masses.
As far as the BBB goes they also cannot force a company to comply notice how many claims are not resolved of those posted??? The BBB lets everyone file a report and then gets a response from the company to which a poster will get an opportunity to say they agree or not and it is left unresolved.
Park West has violated US laws and therfore operates in international waters on "sea days". They lie, misrepresent and overcharge for what they sell.
They manufacture most of the art themselves on site and have been accused of embellishing and selling as unique variations supposedly by artists.They misrepresent them as being hand embellished by the artist. I
know the high end 'investment quality " pieces such as Dali's ,Rembrandt's ,PIcasso's and Peter Max's are fakes. Signatures are being photmechanically reproduced by Park West.
It is fine to pay for art that is authentic and if given a chance to do sue diliegnce Park West would never sell anything on any cruises.
As an answer to teh question of why cruise lines would allow Park West to do this , the answer is that the cruise lines get a HUGE cut of the Park West sales..40% plus the auctioneers get their 15% and it is ahuige money making scam in which the cruise lines are making big money!!!

I have previously purchased from Park West and swore I would never do it again.

Disney could do this WITHOUT Park West. Most on the ship were only looking at Disney art anyway. Hardly any sold that was not Disney.

I purchased a Rodel Gonzalez print 'Kingdom Pride' and was told that it would ship 6-8 weeks but I 'should have it before then.' Needless to say I called them about 4 weeks into it to change my shipping address was was told it was in framing and would be shipping soon.
Called back at the 8-week mark and could not get a response. Repeated attempts to contact them via phone and email went unanswered. Finally I emailed them and copied DCL Guest Communications and got a response within a few hours and my print within a few days. Needless to say, when they did respond they told me it was in framing but told Disney that they were waiting on the prints to arrive and were delayed from the artist.
End of the day, Park West is a scam in my opinion. While I did get my print, it came way past the timeframe promised me. The PW people shoreside told me it is always 12+ weeks and the ship people know that. When on this past week, I spoke with the people on the ship and they said 6-8 weeks. When I told them what was going on, they seemed shocked and said that it is 6-8 weeks.
End of the day, I will not be screwed around with again by the people at Park West and have made my opinions known to DCL.
My advice to all, STAY CLEAR of Park West. I will contact Rodel Gonzalez personally to get all future artwork of his.

I don't see the need for 'new people involved'. Are there? Seems like you'd be replacing one crook with another. IS there really a good reason for having an art auction at sea anyway?

We were on the cruise in August and noticed that the name of the company was not Park West, but it looked like the same stuff they have always had. Auction looked the same, free champagne, etc.
We have always thought it was a bad thing for them to have on board too. There is something sleazy about it. If anything, I wish they had other vendors to browse thru - selling anything...

Several cruises ago, my wife and I attended a Park West auction. We 'won' 2 free prints.Free, as long as you pick 2 prints out of a group of 4 very ugly prints, AND pay about $39.95 for each print to mail to your home. I agreed to hand carry the prints, but park West would not allow it. They 'had' to mail these prints, and that was that. Not quite... we told them in no uncertain terms where they could mail them, and in what tube they could package them. What a bunch of thieves. The retired 'colonel' or whatever he was, who presided over the auction, was a big blowhard in love with himself. Other than the free drink, it was a waste of time. Did I mention that the prints were ugly? I would not have had them grace the walls of a doghouse. Instead of attending a Park West auction, go for a walk around the ship.

We "won" a print years ago on a Celebrity cruise at an auction. We paid to have it framed and shipped. I don't remember the exact sequence of events, but it involved an extraordinary delay -- many months! -- and then the arrival of the wrong print (I'd taken a picture of what we won) and ultimately, we threatend to file a lawsuit against them (I sent them a copy of the complaint we were going to file) and it was resolved to our satisfaction. We would never recommend them, based on what we discovered after our purchase.
are there still art cruises on the DCL? Is Park West back?

That website is VERY out of date. They have 2007 package pricing so I would assume that was the last time it was updated. They also only talk about the Magic and the Wonder so it is all pre-Fantasy/Dream. Park West is no longer on DCL and I have not seen an auction on the navigator in years. There is still art on board but I believe it is solely sold by Disney itself.

Right, and this post had a date of 2009, which made me think maybe they made a triumphant return.
On our RCL cruise, the park west people were quite scammy. Lots of misleading information. Also the prices felt insane to me. But then again, I know RCL cruisers who love their Park West products - especially Peter Max products.
