Is our best option $35 and buy the Sunpass?

Greetings!

Ok, we go to Disneyworld once a year. We rent a car for 7 days. We only know how to take the tollway, so we go through the toll once going down and once coming back every year we go.

We understand that this year there are no manned toll booths on this route anymore. Is this correct?

Our rental car company would charge us $5.95 per day, or about $42 to use the toll twice. Thats ridiculous.

Our rental car company also charges us $25 for violation, even if its a 75c tool. We remember last year spending almost an hour holding on the phone but they gave it back because we missed an exit for a manned toll booth (who would have thought to take an exit to pay a toll?)

We really don't want to go the non-tollway. Thats too much lost vacation time even if we don't get lost (which is likely)

So is our best option to shell out $35 for a Sunpass transponder in our situation?

Thanks in advance!

That's not true, there are still manned tollbooths on the route from MCO to WDW. I'll see if I can find the recent thread where a local person confirmed this.

That's not true. It's just as before.

On the 417, you do need to exit to the cash toll booths. On the Beach Line, you just need to avoid the SunPass or E-pass only booths.

Trust me, I drive these roads (417 and 528) at least 6 days a week - they still take cash. Don't bother with Dollar trying to cheat you - you can still pay cash. Also, if you aren't going to be in the area, I would not bother with the transponder either - there is the additional risk of credit card fraud (people are now figuring out your transponder numbers and racking up charges on others' credit cards). Just grab some cash from the ATM before you head out, get a little change for the exact change tolls (only when you exit, and only at certain exits - while on the roads you can always pay cash and get change) .

Yes, you can pay cash at all of the tolls. Now, some of them, you might need exact change for, so make sure to keep some quarters handy just in case! Also, stay to the right when you get closer to the toll booths, as you will branch off (almost like you are exiting, but no fear, you are not ) to the right to get to the cash lanes.

To the original OP. We rented with Dollar last week and used cash tolls for both the 417 and the 508. I think I just opted out of the prepayment for the tolls; no worries.
Like a previous poster said, just keep to the right toll booths and have some spare quarters.

This might be a better option for you. https://www.sunpass.com/selectAcceptAgreementPurchaseTransponder

Florida is not the only place where you take what looks like an exit ramp to get to a manned toll booth.

I suggest using a non-exact change booth and getting a receipt. Get off 417 at the 535/536 exit (only one of the route numbers is on the sign) to avoid the exact change and SUnpass only booths. Follow 536 as the direct road into Disney.
