Just wondering if anyone else's Old Navy store closed? I was shocked to see our local store in Boca Raton, FL at the Town Center Mall closed. I was just there last month and it was extremely busy. I know it was Christmas but it always seemed very busy there.

I'm just hoping this is not a sign that they may be closing other locations as this is a great "budget" friendly store for our family to shop at. Curious to see if anyone else reports any store closings in their area?:confused3

By my house they built a new old navy 10 minutes from the "old" old navy. They closed down the "old" old navy.

So maybe that's what happened by you?

I dont know about the new old navy by me but the longtime gap store in the mall was closed down befpre Christmas, now the closest are at outlet centers 40 minutese from my houae. I talked on the phone to old navy about gap being closed and the staff at old navy had no idea. Our gap was always a ghost town and our old navy the timeset I have been there wasn't busy either.

ETA here is an article about the store closings..

Also if the gap is couting on the teen buyer for any of their profit in Californai I dont think they are gettinng it, the styles arent popular here.

Shortly after Christmas it was announced that the store in Bozeman was closing. The statewide news picked it up so I guess it was a big deal to have a national chain store pull out of one of its few locations in Montana. Bozeman is a university town so I don't know why they couldn't make it.

The company isn't having problems that I'm aware of. They have been opening some new stores. It might just depends on the areas if the store is profitable

Hi- live in Coconut creek too! Just to let you know the store in town center is taking over the spot at glades and 441 where the Borders book store is going out of business.

The one at our local mall in Taunton, MA is closing :( The mall has been losing stores left and right recently (including the Disney Store I used to work at) mainly due to a combination of the economy and the rent they're charging the stores that are struggling.... :(

Old Navy closed last week and Gap left the first week in November. They blamed it on mall rent increases. I believe it is the reason as that mall is losing stores left and right. Also gone -Luby's (always packed), Tuesday Morning, and several other stores. I was just at Hallmark and they had EVERYTHING except Valentine's Day stuff 40% off - never saw that before! :sad2:

The one closest to us closed about a year ago.

I'm not surprised, actually. The store isn't as good as it used to be; clothing quality has been steadily declining for a long time.

I was on a netbook at Rugby earlier so I couldn't go into detail....

I have 3 kids, one of them is absolutely a fashionista, the otehr a boy age 17 and a girl almost 13 don't know or care about brands much. I can't get the one taht is a fashionista to buy anything at ON or GAP and she doesn't lie any of the stuff I get there either. The oldest the boy I tried to get him to pick out some chinos for an upcoming cruise and he looked at all the ones online and said hell no. The youngest just can't find a thing at either of the stores she would wear. I don't know any of their friends that wear stuff from any of the stores either! My daughter the fashionista can stretch a 20 into a whole entire outfit from Hollisterm or Nordstrom easy so they know how to get the most bang for their but but my kids won't wear clothes from certain stores no matter who is picking up the tab or what the bargain is.

Here in my neck or the woods, Kohls is out, Lands End I can't even say because I love my dis friends, aeropostale and american eagle are not doing well at our mall, I can't get the kids in there at all and Vera Bradly and Northface are not things my kids are aware of. I myself even laugh at the crocs shoes! The only place you see those here is at Disneyland. I am totally not trying to be snobby I SWEAR!! I find things I like at Old Navy but when I go in the stores they are always out of my size. I can buy stuff online, find out it doesn't fit then I go to the store and they don't carry that item at all so I can't exchange it for another size. I don't like shopping or the mall so I give my kids what money I budget for stuff and tell them to get as much as they can and none of the stuff is from some of the stores I have mentioned and certainly not old navy or the gap. I prefer they buy stuff they know they will actually wear rather then a shirt I got for 4.99 on a clearance rack at old navy that will never be worn.

I think no matter the store or whatever Teems are fickle but they do spend money and make the fashion choices in many a household and if you cant atrract a certain demographic you are not going to do well. Either becuse your stuff is out of date, too over priced or not made well. Lots of things factor into sucess right now.

Our Lane Bryant closed at the local mall. I asked the manager about it and it was due to the mall wanting to raise their rent. It just wasn't worth it to them. I was sad because I loved their clothes, especially their jeans.

Around here, teens and college students don't wear Old Navy, it's for not cool. They wear Hollister, Abercrombie, A&E, PACSUN, and some other brands, but not Old Navy or Gap, according to my oldest DS only babies and fuddy duddies wear those brands. He's very fashion conscious and has friends ranging from 12 to 22 (Boy Scouts and Venture Scouts) so I'll take his word for it. I've heard the same from other parents at work. I'd bet it's the same across the country.

True for high school students...not so much for college kids. College kids are usually over the name brand stuff and will wear whatever they can afford. At least in my experience as someone whos been taking college classes.

Our Old Navy closed several years ago. Our mall was pretty badly damaged by Hurricane Rita, and a lot of stores were never re-opened. That Old Navy was ALWAYS busy!! I miss it so much! Now, the closest one is 20 miles away.

Hope so! When I was in borders before it closed and several people asked what was going in-the guy-deadpan- told us either a mosque or a casket store!!!! Couldn't imagine either one in a commercial venue with a movie theater, starbucks etc...employees were probably having great fun throwing out random tenant possibilities.

Old Navy is part of The Gap, who is also the parent company of Banana Republic, a website called PiperLime and a women's athletic wear line called Athleta. The entire retail sector of the economy is suffering right now. Christmas shopping was a mixed bag for the 2010 holiday season and while the company is opening stores in China and Europe, it's a tough road for them until the economy gets better. I would expect more store shutdowns in not just Old Navy but their other brands also. Their clothes cost more!

I was just researching on google what happened to the store in the Boca Mall which is literally walkable from my house. I am so upset it is gone. I parked by Sears JUST because it was closest to Old Navy, pretty much that, Game Stop, MAC and Sephora all I like in that mall. Too rich for me otherwise. I really hope they put another one in nearby because it seems the closest ones are many towns over and like a 35 minute drive either way at least. Sad. In a time of financial crisis and the affordable places are closing?! :/
