Is OKW Good for Kids?

We will be staying at OKW for the first time in September. How is the pool for kids (ages 6 and 2)? What other kid-oriented features does OKW offer? Thanks in advance for yor help.

Old Key West is a wonderful resort. It is not *as* kid-oriented as some of the others but it is perfectly fine...my children, when they were children, loved it there. Try to request if possible a building by the main pool so it is easy to run over and use. There are low depths and sandy areas for the smaller children, and a small game room, bicycle rentals, and boat rentals as well. It's a laid back resort, as the name implies, and we love it there.

My wife and I love OKW. We have a 3 yr old DD that absolutely loves the extra room you get there. If she wants pancakes for breakfast, I'm making them, no need to go to a restaurant. She has her own play area. Also, there are some unique kid related activities. DD had her first real tea party there. When she was 1 we made hand prints in plaster and gave them as gifts for christmas there. Its really wonderful. As a vacation club member and OKW being my home resort, I couldnt be happier. I have my next vaca booked for January and I'm looking forward to My 1 bedroom with the Whirlpool tub, 2 tv's, big ole bed, and a bathroom thats bigger than my house .

We stayed there when our kids were 6 and 1 and the best kids feature there is is the bedroom door! put the kids to bed, close the door and still have a conversation with my husband!

Its also a great rest from the chaos, very relaxing and good after running all day long.

My kids, 11 and 6, love OKW. While the pool doesn't have a slide, the kids always have a good time. While we were there in July, there was a dj at the pool a couple of days with dance contests, hula contests, etc. All of the kids got a small prize for participating. Plus there is a nice sandy play area for the kids right next to the kiddie pool. There are also various activites offered at community hall.

Thanks for your responses. We'll be staying in a studio on DVC points, but we're not DVC members. Is the kiddie pool right next to the main pool? How likely is it that we will get a room near the pool if we request it at check in?

Yes, the kiddie pool is by the main pool and Hospitality house. You have a pretty good chance of getting your request to be near there usually if you don't make too many requests on your ressie. They try to grant at least one of your requests when you have several so make it known which is most important to you when making the request (whether it be non-smoking or near main pool and HH for example).
