Is NYC still snowed in?

Hi all,

I was planning on taking the kids into the city tomorrow - I just read that the LIRR was expecting to be "close to normal" for tomorrow morning's commute. The plan is to take the train in, and see the tree, windows, Times Square, TRU, etc... (you know, the whole tourist thing!)

So just wondering if those in NYC can give it to me straight, is it worth it? Will we be able to get around okay?

Thanks,

I think mass transit will be in much better shape tomorrow. Today it ran less frequently and was very slow and very crowded. Once you are in the city, the significantly narrowed sidewalks are a little tricky. Even on a good day, they can be really crowded. With the snow piles and the post-holiday tourists, it's a little 'bumpy' to get down the street - if you know what I mean. ;) The biggest problem is the slush - it is everywhere! Be sure you have warm, water-proof boots with your pants tucked in (Fashion, Be Damned!) That being said, if you are dressed right and are patient, there is no reason not to go and have a good time! Enjoy!

It was still pretty bad today.
Busses barely running and a lot trains delayed or not running.
And now comes the slush and flooding.
At least it looks like there will not be any rain but it will be 45 on thursday here so things will melt fast.

You may want to check the station you are going out of--according to the emails from them, they hadn't finished plowing all the stations yet.

The city was terrible today. I felt like a mountain climber just trying to get to work. The streets are very slushy (like, several inches deep on the street corners) and the walkways are very narrow, and since this is a big tourist week, it's very crowded. I haven't seen it this bad in years.

we're heading into NYC tomorrow too. we are going to see elf. otherwise i wouldn't be going. hoping the lirr does its job and we get in and out safely and quickly. i don't even think we're going to eat in the city just see the show and head home.
