Well, last Monday we requested our Disney information packet (it hasn't arrived yet) with some curiosity on the whole concept of DVC. Now a week later after visiting this site everyday we're chomping at the bit to get in!

But... we have four children 14, 16, 20 and 23 and already own a week at a five star resort in the islands. The older ones don't really vacation with us any more and the younger ones aren't crazy about WDW, but we are.

We vacation every year (already used 2007 time), we've been to Disney three times in last 15 years and two Disney cruises. Our 2008 vacation is already locked in 2 weeks in the islands so we wouldn't use DVC until at least 2009.

I don't know if we should buy in now 150 points at SSR and rent/transfer our points until we're able to use it more frequently or buy a small contract resale 50 to 75 points and bank, use, borrow it every three years or so. We're not very fussy about where we stay, love them all and moneys not a big problem. Just available vacaton time. I definetly see a use for DVC with 4 kids - who will have kids, one already on the way.

Thanks in advance for any comments!

I would buy now, they are giving an incentive. If you buy 150 now they will give you 150 points this year for free to use ASAP or bank them. Also points go up March 1st.The SSR will be sold out by Nov. this year. It is well worth it. If you need any further info I will be glad to answer your questions.

Don't buy more points than you can use at one of the DVC resorts - especially since you already have another timeshare.

The best value of DVC is using it to stay at a DVC resort.

Renting/Transferring is not as easy as one might think by reading the posts on this board. It can be especially difficult for new owners who are not yet very knowledgable regarding the ins and outs of DVC ownership.

IMHO, you'd be better off renting a reservation when you go, especially since time is at a premium for you right now.

Those who post here are Disney enthusiasts and very positive about DVC. Don't let yourself get caught up in it - you need to do what is best for your situation.

DVC can be a wonderful way to go for the right situation. From what you have posted, I don't think it would be right for you now. My advice is to wait until you think you will actually be able to use your membership yourself.

Thanks for the quick responses. I believe enthusiasts is an understatment .We do love the DVC concept and WDW, but you might be right about our available time. We were just thinking if we would eventually buy anyway the sooner the better-all paid in a few years only MFs to deal with when time opens up. We' ll really have to mull this one over when we get our info pkg. Thanks again

Get the info now and study it. When you're ready to buy you'll know. (It'll be when you want to book a stay that year.)

Until then, go rent a reservation from an existing member and try out a DVC vacation. You're really not getting anything special unless you love going to Disney and do repeated trips to begin with. It seems like you are more into island hopping right now anyway.

I first looked into DVC in '02. Time wasn't right for us. When I came back in '05 they remembered me. I wouldn't have saved much of anything if I bought in '02.

These are the basic questions to ask in order to decide if DVC is right for you-

--Do you go to WDW every year (or every other year, at least)?
--Do you stay in mod or deluxe resorts?
--Do you want/need larger accommodations as opposed to just a standard hotel room?
--Can you afford it without financing (this one some will disagree about, but most here feel that DVC is only worth it if you can buy it outright)

If you answered yes to each of these questions, then DVC is a good choice for you.

Our only regret was that we did not buy sooner. Had been to WDW on and off property. After going and staying off property we know the only way to go was on property.

When our children were late teens they did not want to go until we said we were staying at the GF.

Since we have purchased DVC and they keep planning more vacations.

Love it !

Keeps the family together, too ! Even the times talking about the last visit or planning and dreaming about the next vacation.

Two vacations there last year.
Spring then --
October Food and Wine Fest our son also ran the race that weekend.

January this year for the Marathon ( son ran that too)

Good Times !:cool1:
