we need one more dinner reservation for 6 adults - is the food good and the atmosphere great or is it just like your "neighborhood" chinese restaurant?

I hate to say it, but it may not be as good as your neighborhood Chinese restaurant. I have never read a good review of ND and it is often confirmed by poor reviews and comments on many Disney podcasts. :sad2:

I have read a few good reviews of this restaurant lately. Check out some of the recent threads on the review boards.

I've enjoyed the food there and service was great. Love their hot and sour soup. Had that and the sesame chicken.

We had dinner there in July for the first time and we really enjoyed it. I would go back again. We were on the DDP so I really don't remember the cost of all of it.

I often will see folks post reviews of resturants in the parks and complain that they are too expensive, or good but not worth the cost. The point I am making is don't go to WDW and expect any of the on site resturants to be a great value.

Disney has us by the short hairs when it comes to dining, so save up, order what you like and try not to dwell on the bill :)

We had scratched Nine Dragons off our list years ago after a couple of disappointments, but we ran into friends this past April and it was one of the only places we could get into at the last minute with a large party. The food was quite good, and the atmosphere was quiet and relaxed. We were very pleasantly surprised, and as a result I am looking forward to another dinner there next week.

We have tons of Chinese restaurants in our hometown (large Asian community) and we find Nine Dragons' food to be exceptional. Lots of flavor and good presentation.

We've had less than favorable meals there in the past and after the last one a couple of years ago we vowed not to go back. But in April, on our last night of an extended family trip, we didn't have ADRs and ND was the one place we could get in. There were three kids and my mom in the party, none of which like really fancy chinese food, although they are big fans of chinese food in general. We just ordered things we knew the kids would eat--stuff that wasn't on the menu like plain lo mein and chicken and broccoli. We also got some standard fare like sweet and sour chicken and general tso's chicken and spring rolls and soup.

I have to tell you, it was good. Not just "oh well, it's edible", but we really enjoyed the meal. FWIW, I will go back.

Nine Dragons has become the ending of all our trips. My DW doesnt like Chinese food, but she loves Nine Dragons. Honey Sesame Chicken is great. General Tsos Chicken is good also. WonTon soup is good. Give it a try. We went there several yrs ago and didnt think it was very good. Then went back, got that Honey Sesame Chicken and we were hooked. Now it is a must, sometimes twice a trip.

My DS and his DGF got a last minute ADR at Nine Dragrons three weeks ago. They enjoyed their dinner very much. I would give it a try.

My family LOVES Nine Dragons. We go every trip.

I think these are the reasons it gets bad reviews...

1) price - because it's Chinese, people feel it should cost the same as their local delivery place. When in reality, if you order right, the quality of food is way superieur & after all this is Disney, have you ever found it a good value.

2) Most don't go to Disney that often or for trips longer than 7 days, so there are so many other MUST SEE restaurants they don't have time to try them all, so they just chalk it off as, "I can get it cheaper at home" or something along those lines.

3) Every time I've gone the service has been exceptional. The reason I think it gets bad service reviews is because the waitstaff speak very broken English & in a very low tone. Other than that, they are some of the hardest working waitstaff I've seen at Disney. Great service, although you may need a translator. ;)

Just my observation, after many trips to WDW/Nine Dragons.

I say try it, you won't know for yourself until you try it. Everyone but maybe 3 on DIS LOVE Spoodles, I tried it, don't like. So to each his own.

If you're interested, I have the recipe from the restaurant for the Honey Sesame Chicken. It's in the WDW cookbook. Not too hard to make and tastes pretty close.

Robin -

I'm interested (even though I'm not the poster you were responding to). If you don't mind either PMing me the recipe or posting it here, I'd certainly appreciate it.

Well, my neighborhood chinese restaurants are all scungy holes in the wall that are take out only, so anywhere with nice decor and that wonderful view of Epcot, as long as the food is edible, I'm happy!

My hot and sour soup was some of the best I've ever had.

thank you all for your responses - i tried to email each of you back but my emails were returned to my junk mail - i need to figure out how to respond back to you! again, thanks so much!

I have never dined there because the rest of my family are not fans of Asian cuisine. I LOVE it though and I have watched thread s about 9 Dragons here at the Dis turn from negative(5 years ago) to generally positive. I would sure try it if anyone else in my party would agree. :earsboy:

We just ate there this month and enjoyed it. I actually ate too much it was so yummy. The service was excellent too. And we have a local Chinese eatery we love. The only negative was the desserts were pretty awful. But I've never really had a good dessert at a Chinese place. My advice is to eat here, skip dessert, and hop on over to Norway for a coconut school bread for dessert.

Check your PM for the recipe. :)

I wouldn't go. The only thing that isn't average is the big price tag. I would much rather go to one of the other Epcot eateries like Chefs de France, San Angel Inn, or Le Cellier
