Is National KLM Code Defunct?

I have two cars booked under two separate reservations using the National KLM code. Doing my daily price check, and it says that MCO is out of cars on our date. When I search without the code, it shows availability, though.

Then I experimented with a couple of other airports for the same dates and got the same message about cars being sold out.

So, wondering if the KLM code is no longer valid. And then, if so, will the reservations I made using the code still be honored? Can they cancel once they send you the confirmation email?

I know there's been speculation about the code since the National/KLM partnership has changed.

I just had the same experience a few hours ago ---- checked the price as EI member and when I changed the code to KLM code it said nothing was available. I changed dates several times and got the same message.

I was checking for sept and got the same thing. I did check my oct reservation and the code is attached to that reservation and still showing correct amount

Same thing happened to me. I was checking a few dates a got the same message but when I looked at my December reservation the code is still attached to that reservation.

Looks to me like the code has been finally killed. Typically, existing reservations are not affected when this happens, but no new reservations will be taken when this happens.

I've always been skeptical of this code as I never saw it publicly listed on the KLM or National site. Many people assumed that because the code was named KLM/Flying Blue that it was open to all members of Flying Blue. I'm not sure that was the case, as I have never seen a code that included a LDW that wasn't for international travelers, but that's just my opinion and I applaud anyone who saved by using this code.

I never used it but I saw it on the flying blue website, USA site. Looks like FB no longer has a discount with National.

I tend to agree, chances are National will honor existing reservations, but the "fine print" will probably let National off the hook

If it was on the Flying Blue USA website, then I stand corrected. By the time I heard about the code I could not locate it there.

Just tried using KLM code for our upcoming trip into SFB and it is still accepting code with all vehicles being available. However, if I change the airport code to MCO then I get "Sold Out" message. Could just be the airport or dates having no more vehicles available to use with the code (kinda like trying to book a flight with airline points, no flights available for points but still lots of seats if your paying cash).

Personally have used the KLM code 4 times without issue and did sign up for the Flying Blue membership when the code was actually listed on there partner site, so it definitely was a genuine code back then. Last time we used the code was June 2013 for 2 weeks into LAX

My second thought was that we had noticed issues applying coupon codes to Alamo ressies using MCO and MIA. Code would either return no results or would return an error about "code no longer available at this location". Since Alamo and National are the same company, maybe National has locked out certain codes for certain airports or dates .... just my speculation

When I signed up for KLM/Flying Blue in January 2013 it was absolutely on their site. EASILY found, too.

At some point later it disappeared.

nacho113 that's really interesting that it's still working for another airport, just not for MCO.

I tried to change my time on my reservation and it won't let me. It says vehicles not available. I have us dropping off at 12:30pm but now we are dropping off at 10:30am.

If you are using the KLM code, you will have to call in to change or cancel the reservation.

I was uncertain that this code would still be good for my October trip so I booked on alamo and got the same price for the same car. Actually a couple of dollars less. I remember when we use to use the Carlson code years ago and it changed and we were surprised to go into our existing reservations to see them get modified and the price changed so in case that happens I figured I better have a back up plan. I have a few months to sort it out. Of course I prefer national because of the aisle.

You will be fine as long as you have a booked & confirmed reservation using the code :thumbsup2 .

I emailed National to verify, and here is their response:

"Thank you for contacting National. My name is Undra, and I would be happy to assist you with your inquiry. I've located your reservation XXXXXXXXX, and I do see that we will honor the KLM discount. Because the reservation has already been booked and confirmed, we will honor all discounts applied. Please feel free to contact me again, if you have any additional questions or concerns. Thank you for choosing National. We do appreciate your business.

Regards,
Undra with
National Rent-A-Car"

Unless it changes the number of days on your rental, I wouldn't change it.

I just tried the code for a trip out to SLC and got the no cars available message. Without the code, the cars are definitely available. So, it isn't just MCO. I know the code was on the Flying Blue website several years ago when I first signed up. National is not listed as one of their partners anymore.

Boo!
