How is it that some of you disers get such great rates from National? I've never been able to get anything under $400 qouted from them. Is it the stacking of discount codes? :confused3

Just curious.

Your post tells us nothing...what size of vehicle you are getting a quote for, what dates, etc. Some of us would be happy to tell you what we could get as a quote to double check against, but if you don't tell us the details, we just have to assume you're not really interested in help or you already know the answer to your question.

I find that National sometimes gives some rediculus quotes (i.e. 7 days-Minivan-Elmira, Ny-$1200!!!)

I have rented from National 2 -3 times a year for the past 5 years and the rates lately (since Magic Express started in early May) have been outrageous!!! Wow, your rate is crazy! Let us know your dates, type of vehicle and usually there a couple of kindhearted DIS people that are willing to try code combinations and share their best "find". Some of us enjoy the thrill of finding the lowest rate and most of us "assume" that you are simply looking for some help!

Did you use any codes? The best I've found is Priceless (6600330) and American Express (5125601). I paid $97 for a week, full size, in May using the priceless code and the $20 Entertainment coupon.

Uhhhh, is this necessary? So sorry that I inadvertently left out some info. I hate when these boards get this way!!!

Anyway, for the rest of you kind people willing to help. As indicated in my title the qoute for a mid size was almost $600. It was $598 for 10 days 11/25 to 12/5. That was with a few codes from Mousesavers. I'm not that upset as I did get a great rate of $180 for those dates with Thrifty, but of course, I keep checking just in case. An onsite company would be great too!

Thanks!

Thanks!!!

My dates are above. I love the thrill of the hunt too, but for some reason I've never gotten anything below crazy from National yet I see posts from a lot of people who use them. So, figured I'd ask!

Try L&M; they're in the terminal itself, and usually are much lower than National. I couldn't agree more that I've found National to be nowhere near the cheapest in the three months now I've been plugging in codes. (I don't want to think how much of my time I've wasted trying every possible permutation of codes and offers on National's website...)

The bottom line with L & M, I've got a 16 day rental of a full size from 9/16-10/1 for $366. And yes, that figure includes all fees and taxes!

Check out lmcarrental.net

I hope this helps! (and, I might add, I'm happy to help someone merely trying to get the best rate possible!) :goodvibes

RichNKatHolly,

My trip isn't until Jan. and my rates are very high right now. I normally travel in Jan. so I know what I am looking for in a good rate and it hasn't come close to showing up yet! Another issue for me is that most coupons expire 12/05 so I need to wait until ones dated for next year come out. I look a couple times a day because the rates can change quickly. When I finally see a fairly good weekly rate I will book and then try later to add some discounts.

Enough about my problems...... :goodvibes never having tried to rent at a holiday time I don't know how much National will be discounting but keep looking because it can change anytime...and yes discount stacking is what works best. Lets hope the pattern will continue that seems that National has dropped rates now to try to keep up with M.E. so maybe as they get closer to our dates they will follow the pattern!

This board works because people like to share what may have helped them so I'm glad you stopped by to ask! :flower:

The rates are based on supply and demand. When demand is low, the rates go down. When the demand is high, the rates go up. You are arriving the day after Thanksgiving, which I would think it a high demand time. You may want to look at a split reservation. If you do a new reservation starting Sunday or Monday, you might get a better rate.

Try this...

Take a look at what kind of rate you can get at either National or Alamo, renting from the Magic Kingdom Car Care Center. You'll be able to take Magical Express from MCO to your Disney resort. You can then pick up your car using the complimentary shuttle that will come pick you up at your WDW resort. (You just need to request this the day/night before from the front desk.) You then return the car at the end of your stay to MCO.

This scenario can save you money in the following ways: no airport concession recovery fee, you can tailor the length of the car rental to avoid any pesky single day charges and since your rental is cheaper you'll pay less in taxes.

We are renting a car from National, Emerald Aisle(actually Emerald Counter at the MKCCC), full -size, August 10-17, using the Entertainment Club discount & coupon for $169 Total.

Hope that helps,
agnes!
PS - The other factor in supply/demand is that there has been some rough weather in florida lately, so demand for rental cars could be up.

I don't know why but in January they had very low rates, got the tip from this board. I have 11 days in August for a total price of $190. The prices then went up and I haven't seen anything close. I think since Disney started offering free transportation as many cars are not being rented so the cost is trying to be made up with higher cost by the renters they have left. We always rent a car because we usually go to Universal, cruise and then spend time at the beach, so no matter what the cost is, thankful for what I have, we would have rented a car.

Thanks all for your replies! I will keep trying and check out L&M. Of course, I will keep my reservation with Thrifty in the meantime as it seems like an excellent deal for holiday time.

I don't think I can use ME for this visit because we are staying offsite the 2 nights before our package begins, then AKL, then going on the cruise, then staying off site (Nick hotel) for one more night. I will still check out the MK car care center rental anyway. My car rental qoute is still about $300 better than what all that cab fare would run me.

Thanks again! Have a great day!!!!

I know exactly what you mean. I had an intermediate Fri morning through Tues Afternoon in June. It was $82 total after the discounts. Now, the best rate I can get for the same exact criteria in Sept. is $145. Very frustrating. :badpc:

fyi, I have a National reservation for Nov 25 - Dec 2. I booked back in January and got $179 I think and I continued to check at least once a week. In March I got it down to $149 TOTAL and jumped at it.

It's gone WAY up since and it's because it's Thanksgiving weekend. My only suggestions are to check frequently and also check with Dollar and Alamo.

Good luck!
