My dd will be 5 1/2 on our next trip. Should I bother introducing her to pin collecting or wait until she is older. I thought it might be a great way to have her interact with the CM's and others but I also am not sure I want to start spending a ton of money on something she doesn't even know about yet.

Is 5 years old too young???

I am going to let my 3 1/2 year old give it a try in May. We were there in Sept. and she liked the pins, I didn't explain about trading though so we bought some.

This time I am going to give her a limit.

What I am hoping to do is give her 6 pins and let her trade those 6. I will either take some from our last trip or buy some on Ebay. She can trade those 6 as many times as she likes. If my daughter doesn't enjoy trading I like the pins so I don't see it as a loss for me.

You can also get the starter lanyards.

Maybe you can start with something like that and then if you find out they have a real interest in it and want to collect sets you can help them out some more.

I don't think 5 is too young to trade but it depends on the child. You daughter may not like it so start small.

Our DS started trading when he was about 5 years old. He STILL loves it (of course his parents are just CRAZY about it!) It was helpful in instilling lessons of patience, manners and assertiveness. He had to be assertive in initiating a trade with a CM, he had to learn to be patient if they were helping another guest (like those at a cash register) and he HAD to use good manners or we would not permit him to trade any longer. He got much better at making eye contact through pin trading and he was always praised by the CM's for his manners.

In short, it is a wonderful learning experience and FUN!

Hi Suzi -- I think that you raise some very good points. I had never thought of pin trading for kids in that light. I am going to pass on your comments/ideas to some people I know.

Mike

Thanks, Mike. You know that your dear sweet Judy Sue always spoke so highly about how well behaved my Tony is. Any situation (pin trading included) can be a life lesson if we look for what we can learn!
